Jerry Jones Says Cowboys Are 'All In' On Next Season

Jan 31, 2024 8:25 AM

The Dallas Cowboys have had a hard time in the playoffs despite three-straight 12-win seasons.

Mike McCarthy is 1-3 in the postseason, but Jerry Jones decided to retain him as head coach for a fifth season.

Dallas will have some work to do this offseason with Dak Prescott entering the final year of his contract and a possible extension looming.

"I would anticipate -- with looking ahead at our key contracts that we'd like to address -- we will be all in," Jones said. "I would anticipate we will be all in at the end of this year.

"... It will be going all in on different people than you've done in the past. We will be going all in. We've seen some things out of some of the players that we want to be all in on. Yes, I would say that you will see us this coming year not build it for the future. It's the best way I've ever said. And that ought to answer a lot of questions."

Eagles Hire Kellen Moore As OC

Jan 28, 2024 2:14 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.

The move comes two days after the Eagles hired Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator in the first move of a coaching staff overhaul by Nick Sirianni. Moore will replace Brian Johnson, who was fired earlier this week.

Mike McCarthy Not Expected To Get Extension

Jan 20, 2024 6:08 PM

Mike McCarthy is not expected to receive any sort of extension from the Dallas Cowboys and will coach the 2024 season on an expiring contract, league sources told ESPN.

Ever since Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced this week that McCarthy would return in 2024, there have been questions about whether McCarthy's contract could be adjusted in some way -- even something as simple as having one more year tacked on.

The answer, simply enough, is no. Jones said he believes that a person in the last year of a contract is challenged in a different way, and it often can bring out the best in people -- which he is banking on happening in 2024 with McCarthy.

Cowboys Retain Mike McCarthy For 2024 Season

Jan 17, 2024 10:31 PM

Jerry Jones has announced that the Dallas Cowboys will retain Mike McCarthy as head coach in 2024.

Jones met with McCarthy on Wednesday following another early exit from the playoffs for the Cowboys. McCarthy has a 1-3 playoff record as head coach of the Cowboys.

"I believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals and the best step forward for us will be with Mike McCarthy as our head coach," Jones said in a statement released by the team. "There is great benefit to continuing the team's progress under Mike's leadership as our head coach."

McCarthy has posted a 42-25 regular-season record with NFC East titles in 2021 and 2023.

Dak Prescott Backs Mike McCarthy As Jerry Jones Mum On Future

Jan 15, 2024 1:03 AM

Before the Cowboys' 48-32 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round was even finished Sunday, there were questions swirling about the job status of Dallas coach Mike McCarthy.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, now 81 and a 28th season removed from the franchise's last Super Bowl appearance, would not get into what might or might not happen with McCarthy as Jones stood outside the locker room after the game.

Dak Prescott On Winning NFC East: 'I Want Something Better'

Jan 8, 2024 9:05 AM

Dak Prescott wasn't overly excited about the Dallas Cowboys winning the NFC East on Sunday.

Unlike a number of his teammates, Prescott didn't wear a division championship hat while speaking with the media.

"I wouldn't say I'm trying to send a message or anything," Prescott said. "The [winter] hat is warmer. A shirt is a shirt. Yeah, I mean, won it before. Obviously, it's a huge accomplishment for myself, this team, the organization. Don't get me wrong by any means. But the focus is ahead. Simple as that ... I want something better."

Prescott will make his fifth trip to the playoffs when the Cowboys play the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round at AT&T Stadium. He has not gotten past the divisional round in his career.

Tony Pollard Expected To Have More Productive Season

Jan 5, 2024 8:51 AM

Tony Pollard expected to be more productive in his first season as the lead running back for the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas used the franchise tag on Pollard, while letting Ezekiel Elliott walk in free agency.

"I thought I would probably have a better year than I am now," Pollard said. "Where we are as far as playoffs and rankings, I couldn't complain with everything in front of us. I would say just trying to get more at-bats at the plate. Get more repetition for the O-line and get a feel for how the defense is playing things and getting into a rhythm."

Pollard has fewer yards (935 against 1,007) despite more carries (235 against 193) this season. He's scored four fewer touchdowns.

"I hold myself to a higher standard," Pollard said. "I try to be my hardest critic and my hardest judge before anybody else can. So I'm always hard on myself."

Dan Quinn Not Concerned About Head Coaching Buzz

Jan 2, 2024 8:33 AM

Dan Quinn figures to get plenty of buzz as a head coach candidate this offseason, but the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator is focused on his current team.

The Cowboys can win the NFC East in Week 18 and hope to have a lengthy postseason run.

"I think it's important to know how to compartmentalize," Quinn said. "Fortunately for me, in that space, any preparation you would do on that is done over the summertime. If and when that time gets called, I would certainly be ready to discuss that at a moment's notice. It's pretty easy these days to compartmentalize. Quite honestly, the guys that I'm able to coach are a big reason why I wanted to be back here, so I'm not gonna let that moment miss one second."

Quinn pulled his name out of the running the past two coaching cycles to return to Dallas and is expected to be judicious once again during the 2024 process.
