NFL's 32 Teams Collectively Worth $99 Billion

Aug 26, 2020 1:29 PM

The average NFL franchise is worth more than $3 billion, according to data compiled by Sportico.

The Dallas Cowboys rank first in the NFL at $6.43 billion with the Cincinnati Bengals ranking last at $2.12 billion.

The fair-market value of the NFL's 32 franchises collectively is $99 billion when considering team-related businesses and real estate held by owners.

The teams’ $15.83 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year, which represents the 2019 season, was greater than that of 298 companies on the Fortune 500. That averages to about $495 million per team.

In 2019, the Cowboys generated an estimated $871 million in revenue, which was 81% greater than the average of the other 31 teams.

Cowboys Trying To Advance Of AT&T Stadium's Space To Host Fans

Aug 21, 2020 1:52 PM

The Dallas Cowboys remain committed to attempting to host fans at AT&T Stadium this season. The Cowboys play their first home game on September 20 and Jerry Jones referenced studies showing COVID-19 is less likely to be transmitted in open, outdoor spaces.

“We have space,” Jones said, via the team’s website. “Yeah, we have the ability to enclose it, we have the ability to open it wide open. There’s 3 million feet of air conditioned space out there. When I think of playing our games out there, I want our fans to think about space. Space is what we’re trying to take advantage of. We have it.”

Jones added that he’s “not worried about the air conditioning bill” that would come with such an approach.

Mike McCarthy: Super Bowl Is Always The Goal

Aug 21, 2020 9:29 AM

Mike McCarthy says winning the Super Bowl is always the goal for the Dallas Cowboys.

"I think conversation like that frankly, respectfully is nonsense," the first-year coach said when asked about Super Bowl-or-bust expectations. "If you're not trying to win the Super Bowl, I don't know what you're even doing in this business.

"I think that's what every team starts their offseason with. The ones that don't want to talk about it, they're probably just trying to under-promise, over-achieve. But I've always been very up front about it with every team I've ever coached: We're in this to win a championship. Make no bones about it."

McCarthy won Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium, but the Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since 1995.

Gerald McCoy To Miss Entire 2020 Season With Ruptured Quad

Aug 17, 2020 3:44 PM

Gerald McCoy will miss the entire 2020 season after rupturing his right quadriceps tendon during the first padded practice of the Dallas Cowboys' training camp. McCoy will undergo surgery.

McCoy suffered the injury during individual drills.

The Cowboys signed McCoy to a three-year, $18 million deal in free agency as part of a rebuild of their defensive line.

"It's obviously tough," Stephen Jones said. "It's part of the game. You see injuries around the league every day, and unfortunately that's why you have to have a deep roster. Obviously you sign a guy like Everson Griffen, you never know when things like this are going to happen."

Cowboys Sign Everson Griffen To One-Year, $6M Deal

Aug 13, 2020 7:43 AM

The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a one-year deal with Everson Griffen worth $6 million.

In 10 season with the Vikings, Griffen recorded 74.5 sacks, including eight last season when he was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time.

The Cowboys lost last year's sack leader at the start of free agency when Robert Quinn, who had 11.5 sacks in 2019, signed with the Chicago Bears.

Dak Prescott Confident He'll Spend Entire Career With Cowboys

Aug 12, 2020 3:07 PM

Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones expressed optimism that a long-term contract will eventually be reached and he'll remain the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys well into the future.

Prescott and the Cowboys were unable to agree to a contract before the July 15th deadline. Prescott will make $31.4 million under the one-year franchise tender.

“Business is business, and once I’m in the locker room and part of what’s going on now, I don’t focus too much about the future,” Prescott said. “It’s more about today. So with that being said, I’m excited to be a Dallas Cowboy. I’ve been a fan of this organization. I’ve been a fan of this program for years. I love every bit of the opportunity and the platform that I get to be the quarterback here. I love this team. I’m excited about what we can do and accomplish this year. No frustration as far as that. Once again, I believe something will get done, and I also believe I’ll be a Dallas Cowboy for the rest of my career.”

Prescott added “there are reasons probably it didn’t get done from both sides.”

Jones cited COVID-19 and the NFL's uncertain financial landscape as one of the reasons why a deal wasn't done.

“I don’t even want to be glib or trite when I say that’s a part of professional sports is sitting down, talking about the money. That’s a part of that,” Jones said. “Dak is outstanding. He’s probably one of the top people that I’ve been around for his age and his cumulative experience. . . . We think he’s outstanding. We think he’s our quarterback of the future. We just couldn’t get together at this particular time. I think it’s easily worth nothing that a lot of people this year in the franchise mode didn’t get together. One of the biggest reasons is the backdrop of COVID. One of the biggest reasons is the economic issue. I’ve just spent weeks and weeks, a part of this rasp voice on the phone, talking with the NFL and the players association, working through the economic consequences and candidly, nobody knows what’s going to be there next year or next year or the next year. Frankly, we all know that what we were talking about in Dak’s case is the next year and the next year and the next year and the next year. So all of that came to bear, and this was just less than stable time to be talking about serious, serious — generational if you will, to use Dak’s term — dollars in an unknown period of time looking forward. That certainly was one of the issues.”

Majority Of Cowboys Creating Training Camp Bubble At Hotel

Aug 11, 2020 8:47 PM

Players, coaches and staff of the Dallas Cowboys will set up their summer home at the five-star Omni Hotel next to the team's practice facility to create their own bubble to prevent a spread of COVID-19.

One official said he believed the majority of the team would be staying there.

During the regular season, the Cowboys stay at the hotel on nights before home games at AT&T Stadium.

The New Orleans Saints are similarly creating their own bubble.

In a normal year, the Cowboys would be at the River Ridge Residence Inn in Oxnard, California, for more than a month for training camp.
