Competition Committee: 2014 Dez Bryant Play Should Be A Catch

Feb 28, 2018 7:55 AM

The NFL's competition committee has reached a "unanimous" agreement that plays such as the controversial one involving Dez Bryant in the 2014 playoffs should be considered a catch going forward.

Another play referenced involved Calvin Johnson back in 2010.

"I think where we are unanimous," New York Giants owner John Mara said, "[are] plays like the Dez Bryant play in Green Bay, going to the ground, [and] the Calvin Johnson play from a couple of years ago. I think all of us agree that those should be completions. So let's write the language to make them completions."

The discussions are geared toward a rewriting of the catch rule for the 2018 season.

NFL Forces Jerry Jones To Reimburse League For Legal Fees

Feb 26, 2018 6:07 PM

Jerry Jones will be forced by the NFL to reimburse the league's legal fees for his part in attempting to block the contract extension of Roger Goodell and for also defending Ezekiel Elliott during his suspension battle last season.

Goodell has the backing of many NFL owners to punish Jones. Goodell has been reluctant to issue a fine because he doesn't want to be viewed as exacting retribution for Jones' actions. But several owners believed Jones had crossed a boundary by threatening his fellow owners and that it was detrimental to the NFL.

Jones will be ordered to pay the legal fees that the committee incurred defending itself, as well as the legal expenses the N.F.L. spent defending its decision to suspend Elliott.

Jones was aware as early as August that only about 12 percent of Goodell’s compensation was guaranteed, and the rest would be based on whether he and the league met a variety of financial targets. Jones, however, continued to argue that Goodell was being overpaid.

Cowboys Uncertain On Keeping Dez Bryant

Feb 23, 2018 11:42 AM

The Dallas Cowboys could move on from Dez Bryant this offseason.

Dallas would save $8.5 million against the cap by releasing Bryant.

“No one wants to compete and get after it more than Dez,” Jones said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “At the same time, we all know this is a business where everyone had to be accountable…We’re going to be grinding it out trying to understand what is in our best interests of our business.”

Bryant's production fell off in 2017.

Rico Gathers: I'm Going To Be Next Great Tight End

Feb 19, 2018 7:25 AM

Rico Gathers has big plans for himself in his third NFL season.

A sixth-round pick in 2016, Gathers spent his rookie season on the practice squad for the Dallas Cowboys and this past season on injured reserve.

In two preseason games last year, the basketball player-turned-tight end had seven catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

"Facts is facts," Gathers wrote on Instagram. "It's only the beginning. Truth is I'm ready for more. Been ready for more. The dilemma of me not being ready is over. I got a piece of it last year and it felt so good doing it, y'all will never understand that feeling. It was like the most epic scene of movie before the power goes out in ya house for a few hours and you forget all about what you was watching. I watched those two games the other day and I told myself 'Ima be the next best tight end in this league' and I believe that with all my heart. lol y'all continue to hate while I continue to shine I love y'all, y'all make me better. God knows my heart and that's all that counts to me."
