NFL Tells Jerry Jones To Stop Discussing Anthem Policy With Media

Jul 30, 2018 9:38 AM

The NFL has told Jerry Jones to stop discussing the national anthem policy with the media.

Jones’ sudden adherence to league policy comes less than a week after he separated himself from NFL with his pronouncement of a team-mandated anthem policy of standing to attention with toes on the line or face the prospect of getting cut.

Players across the league have decried the comments while openly questioning how the NFL and NFLPA can have a meaningful negotiation with Jones already deciding on his team’s policy.

Stephen Jones: Players Must Stand For Anthem To 'Be A Cowboy'

Jul 27, 2018 9:05 AM

While discussing the Dallas Cowboys' position on the national anthem, Stephen Jones said in a radio interview that players should stand "if they want to be a Dallas Cowboy."

Jones told KTCK 96.7 FM that the team supports the opinions of the players, but that those issues should be put aside while they are representing the Cowboys.

"We certainly are supportive of them when they have their personal issues or their personal things that they want to pursue," Jones said. "And we'll help them pursue them on Tuesdays. But when you're wearing the Dallas Cowboy uniform and a Dallas Cowboy helmet and you're working for the Dallas Cowboys, you check the 'I' and the 'me' at the door, and you're a part of a team."

Jones added that players would face punishment if they chose to stay in the locker room for the anthem.

Jerry Jones Insists Jason Garrett Isn't On Hot Seat

Jul 26, 2018 8:46 AM

Jerry Jones still has confidence in Jason Garrett as the right head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

When asked whether it was a playoffs-or-bust year for Garrett, Jones said: "No. That's the best answer I can give, and the fairest."

Jones went on to further praise Garrett.

"Our coach and our coaching staff are the No. 1 reason that I'm excited about what we have ahead of us this year," the owner said.

The Cowboys have nine playoff appearances and three postseason wins since 1995.

Garrett is 67-53 with two playoff berths in his seven full seasons as head coach.

Cowboys Will Continue Relationship With Papa John's

Jul 25, 2018 4:20 PM

The Dallas Cowboys will continue their relationship with Papa John's as Jerry Jones owns 120 locations.

“Some teams that I’ve noticed that have addressed the Papa John’s issue by distancing themselves do not have the same relationship that the Cowboys have with the Papa John’s business in Texas,” Jones said Wednesday. “We own the Papa John’s in Texas and feel strongly that our Cowboys are the face of Papa John’s, and that judgment is warranted by what we’ve done over the last 15 years with Papa John’s. That’s very unfortunate. . . . It’s unfortunate for the company and unfortunate for John. I’m sure if he could do it over again, he’d like do-overs. But the bottom line is the Cowboys and our relationship, we own those stores. It’s not an endorsements. Similar to the way [John] Elway does in Denver.

“The point is: We just want to work real hard. We literally have thousands of people who work in those stores and several thousand customers who want to have the kind of taste in your mouth that you want to have when you have Papa John’s to use a phrase.”

Jones, who last fall called John Schnatter “a great American,” said he has not talked to the ousted CEO since Schnatter’s use of a racial slur was revealed.
