NFL Sets Rules For Video-Board Plays

Oct 31, 2014 6:21 AM

The NFL has again approved the controversial video board hanging from the new Cowboys Stadium. The league has also introduced rules. Downs will be replayed and clock will be reset if a football hits the massive video display board that hangs over the middle of the field. The rule only lasts for one season, and the league will review it next year.

Jimmy Johnson: Don't Move Cowboys Video Boards

May 17, 2014 3:36 AM

Jimmy Johnson doesn't want to see the Cowboys move their controversial video boards. "If there's anything wrong, it's that people are going to watch the video board and not the game," Johnson told the Associated Press. "It is so dominating, but I think it's so cool. I think it's great." Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spent $40 million on the boards, which are about sixty yards long, making them the world's largest high-definition screens. Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher and punter A.J. Trapasso -- who repeatedly hit the boards during warmups, then for real in the third quarter and almost did it again on his do-over -- have said the screens need to be raised. "Who knows, Jerry might've put them up to it so people will talk about it," Johnson said with a laugh.

Ruling On Cowboys' Scoreboard Coming Soon

Jul 6, 2014 6:18 AM

A ruling is expected to come soon on the controversial scoreboard that hangs at midfield at the new Cowboys Stadium. "Before this week is through, the NFL is going to have to make some type of ruling about how to handle the scoreboard hanging in the Dallas Cowboys new stadium," ESPN's Adam Shefter is reporting. "But a league official e-mailed a message earlier that he does not expect that decision to come down today. The Cowboys host San Francisco on Saturday night, and the league is expected to make its decision before then."

Changing Video Screen Would Cost Cowboys $2M

Nov 4, 2014 3:39 AM

If the Cowboys are going to alter the video screen hanging from the middle of their new stadium, a source claims it'll cost them $2 million. Titans punter A.J. Trapasso hit the board in Friday's preseason game, the first-ever game played at Cowboys Stadium. Dallas owner Jerry Jones insists that the entire building, including the 60 by 25 yard television screen was OKed by the NFL.

Kicker Hits HD Screen At New Cowboys Stadium

Sep 13, 2014 9:33 PM

The Titans may have uncovered a huge flaw in the construction of the Cowboys' new stadium on Friday night. Tennessee reserve punter A.J. Trapasso hit the gigantic HD screen that hangs over the field with a punt in the second half. Dallas owner Jerry Jones said after the game that the NFL approved the screen and that he has no plans to alter it. "It's an issue, yeah," said Titans coach Jeff Fisher, who serves as co-chairmen of the league's competition committee. "I'm sure the Cowboys or the league will tell you, I shouldn't have to throw a flag out there because [the officiating crew] didn't see the ball hit the scoreboard. Now, it's not necessarily their responsibility. Once a fair catch signal is given, then there are no eyes on the ball anymore. So they don't see it. So something has to get worked out. It can become a problem." The stadium cost $1.2 billion and Jones continued to defend it. "You don't need to move it. You gotta be trying to do it. The rule is very clear. You just kick it over," he said. Tennessee's kickers said they hit the screen multiple times during warmups.

Cowboys Enjoying Lack Of 'Drama'

Apr 3, 2014 9:16 AM

The Cowboys have been satisfied with how quiet and uneventful their 2009 training camp has gone. ?We definitely needed less drama,? linebacker Bradie James said. ?The dramatics, the saga, the soap opera, that's pretty much gone. We are still ?America's Team,' and there will be things that come up. But this camp has been strictly football.? The Cowboys eliminated Terrell Owens, Adam ?Pacman? Jones, Tank Johnson and even Jessica Simpson over the offseason. ?That's the direction certainly we needed to go,? coach Wade Phillips said of the offseason housecleaning. ?We'll see how that works out, but that's helped us. Football-wise, we are in tune.?

Phillips Takes Shot At Owens

Feb 12, 2014 11:01 PM

Wade Phillips was asked in his afternoon press conference on Friday if he agreed with Jerry Jones that this team was humbled by the events of last season. Phillips talked about how this team is different than last season. He was pressed to comment further by the media. "Well, we had one guy who was here who wasn't real humble and he's not here any more," Phillips said, presumably referring to Terrell Owens. "So maybe it makes everyone else look humble."

Jones Fears Cowboys' Window Is Closing

Sep 9, 2014 1:25 PM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes that the team's window of opportunity for a Super Bowl is closing. "We all know there is a short window in careers and there is a short window of coming together with talent," Jones said, according to the San Antonio Express-News. "Now we have got one of the most talented teams I've ever been associated with. We had it last year. And we know that alone doesn't get it. "But in the system we are in, you just can't keep (a team) together all of the time. I'm afraid if we don't accomplish what we all have expectations for, then I'm afraid the time will pass us by, and there is a lot of that on this team." When asked how short he felt the window was, Jones stressed missed opportunities. "I don't know about a short window, but I will say in terms of seasons, we missed a great opportunity last year to do better and to be in a more competitive position. We have to make up for it now," the owner added.
