Crayton: No Excuses With T.O. Gone

Sep 17, 2014 9:33 AM

Cowboys receiver Patrick Crayton says that the team no longer has any excuses with Terrell Owens playing elsewhere. "All of that is in the past," Crayton said. "As a group, there are no more excuses, no more scapegoats to put the blame on. It's all on us that are here to get the job done. There is nobody here to point the finger at. You understand the business. They made it more [offensive coordinator] Jason Garrett and [quarterback] Tony Romo friendly. Again, no more excuses."

No Extension Talk Between Cowboys, Phillips

May 17, 2014 6:04 AM

There have not been any discussions between the Cowboys and coach Wade Phillips regarding a contract extension. Gary O'Hagan, Phillips' agent, said Thursday the club has not opened any discussions, according to the Dallas Morning-News. "It takes about four years to get a championship-type team put together," Phillips told the Morning-News. "We were expected, because of Dallas, to do it in one, maybe two years, and we haven't done that. I'm disappointed we haven't, but I think we will."

Owens Accuses Jones Of Reneging On Contract

Sep 15, 2014 6:49 AM

Terrell Owens claims that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reneged on a personal commitment to keep him under contract. Owens also suggested that the owner's son, Stephen Jones, the executive vice-president of the team, was behind his release this month. "You hear all the speculation, and you talk to the owner of the team, and he reassures you, you're not going anywhere and then, out of left-field ... you get blindsided," Owens said in an interview with Rogers Sportsnet. Owens had signed a four-year contract extension with Dallas last summer. "I know whole-heartedly he [Jerry Jones] wanted me there," Owens said. "There were some people I know who got in his ear that pressured him to make that decision. For that, it's sad. You let two or three people conspire to get me out of the situation."

Phillips: Cowboys Will Use 3-RB Attack

Sep 17, 2014 9:33 AM

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips believes that the running game will be a big factor for the team next season, and plans to use a three-back system. "If a guy can play and help your team in a certain role, you want to utilize him," Phillips said. "Not only for the team but also for the overall morale of the team that, 'Hey, I've got this role and I can help the team win,' instead of just sitting on the bench all of the time. They practice better. Everything, the chemistry of the team is better when more players contribute. I think we have that at running back." That means Dallas will feature Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice in the backfield.

NFL Could Put Sponsor Logos On Practice Uniforms

Sep 17, 2014 9:31 AM

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, a member of the league's business ventures committee, said the league is exploring the possibility of having sponsor logos worn unobtrusively on practice jerseys. In addition to receiving a four-year, $4 billion extension from DirecTV and investigating relaxing rules against liquor and lottery sponsorships, the practice jersey sponsor logos were addressed at the three-day owners' meetings that concluded Wednesday. Further discussion will be held at the league's May meetings in Fort Lauderdale. "It would be similar to logos worn on pro soccer jerseys," Jones said.

Cowboys Looking For Wildcat QB In Draft

May 11, 2014 8:26 AM

The Cowboys don't typically draft quarterbacks and haven't selected one since 1991, but are interested this year in order to make the Wildcat formation an option in their playbook. "We may want to do some things in our offense this year with a third quarterback," Jones said. "That's something other than be there as a backup to the second quarterback and be there in case you lose all the quarterbacks. ... We could hopefully find a quarterback with a set of skills that we could put some packages in for."

Wade Phillips Breaks Offseason Silence

Sep 17, 2014 9:38 AM

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has broken his offseason silence, telling Dallas area press that he likes where the team is headed. "Every year there's going to be change," said Phillips. "We tried to pick up players to help our football team. Not necessarily the same positions sometimes, but sometimes they are. ... Sometimes you lose players and you've got to be solid enough going into the draft. That's part of what we've done." Cowboys owner Jerry Jones declared earlier this offseason that coaches were off limits to the media.

Dallas Has No Pressing Need To Draft A Wide Receiver

Oct 31, 2014 11:36 AM

Jerry Jones said on Thursday that the Cowboys have no pressing need to select a wide receiver in April's draft. "One of the reasons that I made the decision on Terrell Owens was because I thought so much of our young receivers. Not only Roy Williams ... but our other young receivers -- Miles Austin, Sam Hurd, those are guys that will now have a chance," Jones said Thursday night. "It would really have to be a real opportunity for us to go there. "The good news with our team right now is we can go about any direction we want to in the draft and pick the best player."
