Beanie Wells Had Secret Surgery In Preseason

Jun 23, 2014 3:14 AM

Beanie Wells had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee after he was injured in the team's final preseason game, which was kept secret until Friday. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed Friday that Wells had surgery but said it was not a serious procedure and there was no reason to believe the running back would be out more than on a week-to-week basis. Wells told reporters that the surgery was performed to repair a torn meniscus. The issue was raised after a reporter from CBSSports.com noticed incision marks on Wells' knee.

Beanie Wells Misses Practice, Status In Doubt

Jun 23, 2014 3:40 AM

Cardinals running back Beanie Wells sat out practice on Thursday with a sore right knee and his status for Week 1 of the season is in doubt. "We'll see," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "If he can make the kind of progress he's made the last couple of days then we'll see where he is on game day." Arizona has three other running backs and they plan to be cautious. "What concerns me is I don't want this to be something that in week 12 or week 13 or week 14 that you're having issues with," the coach said. "Like we said earlier in the week, we're going to be conservative on it. If we feel like Beanie's made enough progress by Sunday, then he'll play. If we don't, then like I said, I feel very strong at that position."

Seahawks Won't Pursue Leinart

Jun 10, 2014 12:19 AM

Having been cut by the Cardinals, Matt Leinart appears to be a perfect fit for the Seahawks. However, Clark Judge of CBS Sports writes that Seattle won't pursue the young quarterback. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was Leinart's college coach at USC. "Apparently, Seattle is satisfied with its two quarterbacks, Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst, despite Whitehurst's inconsistent play this summer. But the club paid a steep price to acquire Whitehurst from San Diego and envisions him as Hasselbeck's successor, and the Seahawks didn't want to complicate the situation by introducing another young quarterback," Judge writes.
