Cardinals Say Boldin Could Be Dealt
The Cardinals are open to trading wide receiver Anquan Boldin this offseason.
"Our approach with Anquan is really the same as what it was last year: We're going to consider all our options," general manager Rod Graves said.
"... We'll go through what the options are throughout the offseason, and make the decision that's best for our team."
Boldin has clashed with team officials in the past over his contract and the Cardinals previously have indicated a willingness to listen to trade offers for him.
"We're going to look at all the options regarding Anquan and regarding all our players," coach Ken Whisenhunt said.
Cardinals Extend HC Whisenhunt, GM Graves
The Cardinals announced that coach Ken Whisenhunt and general manager Rod Graves signed extensions Thursday to remain with the team through 2013.
Whisenhunt's contract, which also has a team option for 2014, puts him among the five highest-paid coaches in the NFL, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora, and averages over $5 million per season.
Whisenhunt and Graves have led the franchise to new heights, reaching Super Bowl XLIII and winning a playoff game in 2009 before falling to the eventual champion Saints.
"The outstanding work of these two individuals has been a vital part of the organization's accomplishments," Cardinals president Michael Bidwill said in a statement released by the team. "Rod and his staff have done an exceptional job in evaluating talent and building a roster that will produce sustained success. Obviously Ken Whisenhunt's achievements as a head coach speak for themselves.
Report: Cardinals Could Release Rolle
Cardinals defensive back Antrel Rolle is due $4 million if he's still on the roster next week and an extension has been discussed.
However, rumors indicate that he could be released by Arizona instead.
The Cardinals are apparently thinking the team can re-sign Rolle without shelling out all that dough since he supposedly would really like to stay in Arizona.
Dansby Prepared To Test Market
Cardinals free-agent linebacker Karlos Dansby is expected to test the market.
The Arizona Republic reported, through a private team source, that Arizona is prepared to let Dansby test the open market and will not apply the franchise tag on the six-year veteran for the third consecutive year.
Cardinals Still Confident In Leinart
Cardinals general manager Rod Graves and coach Ken Whisenhunt are still confident in quarterback Matt Leinart.
They expressed their confidence during an interview with KTAR 620 in Arizona.
Whisenhunt in particular expressed confidence in Matt Leinart, noting that Leinart nearly beat out Warner for the starting job heading into the 2008 season.
"Kurt was pretty good at that time and Matt held his own against him," Whisenhunt said.
Cardinals, Whisenhunt Working On Extension
The Cardinals are working on a contract extension for head coach Ken Whisenhunt.
Whisenhunt's current contract ends after the 2011 season.
Arizona president Michael Bidwill declined comment, in keeping with team policy.
Dansby Market Becoming More Clear
Karlos Dansby will likely be free to leave Arizona this offseason.
He is interested in talking to the Giants, Chargers, Dolphins and Redskins.
Fitzgerald Confident In Leinart
Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is confident in the abilities of quarterback Matt Leinart.
"Matt knows all he's got to do is call me," Fitzgerald said. "That's my boy. I'm going to do anything he needs me to do that he feels will make him better."
Kurt Warner retired last week, leaving Arizona with Leinart at quarterback for the time-being.
