Tyrann Mathieu Out For Season With Torn ACL

Dec 22, 2015 11:55 AM

Tyrann Mathieu tore his ACL on a late interception in the Arizona Cardinals' win at the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mathieu has been one of the NFL's best defensive backs this season.

Bruce Arians says he loves the fact that Mathieu has used his second chance perfectly, becoming a leader and a great player.

“It’s his energy and passion, at everything,” said Arians. “He’s just so good to be around, for us coaches and for his teammates. He wants to be great every day. I mean, we could lose Carson [Palmer], or Patrick [Peterson], and it’d be devastating. We could replace Tyrann, but who would replace his interceptions and his sacks? I have to say, he’s my favorite. This would be devastating for him.”

Bruce Arians Was Snubbed By Bears, Eagles, Browns, Chargers

Dec 16, 2015 1:23 PM

Bruce Arians should have been one of the strongest head coaching candidates in 2013.

Arians was coming off a strong year of leading the Indianapolis Colts on an interim basis while Chuck Pagano was undergoing cancer treatment.

“While I was in Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland and San Diego cancelled the interviews that we had set up,” Arians said, via Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com. “I never got an answer [why they canceled], other than ‘Thanks, but no thanks. That day I was at the Bears, three of the teams decided to go in different directions. I was probably more disappointed because I thought I had the Bears job, and it was like a double-whammy.”

Arians eventually ended up with the Arizona Cardinals and he's become one of the NFL's best coaches.

The Browns hired Rob Chudzinski, fired him after one season, and are now 3-10 in Mike Pettine’s second season. The Bears hired Marc Trestman, fired him after two seasons, and are now 5-8 in their first year with John Fox. The Chargers hired Mike McCoy, who is now 3-10 in his third season. The Eagles hired Chip Kelly, who is now 6-7 in his third season.

Palmer: David Johnson A 'Todd Gurley-Style Runner'

Dec 4, 2015 7:05 PM

Carson Palmer has compared David Johnson to Todd Gurley.

Johnson figures to have a bigger role in the Arizona Cardinals' backfield with Chris Johnson out with injury.

"Kind of like a Todd Gurley-style runner," Palmer said of Johnson this week. "Fast in the open field and just big, hard to bring down."

Johnson could be a major upgrade in short-yardage situations as well as the passing game.

"He's probably as natural a catcher as there is," Palmer said. "He was a receiver growing up and he just grew too much, too fast. He catches the ball really, really well. He understands concepts well. Great body control."
