Warner Likely Done For Season

Oct 2, 2014 4:32 AM

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner hurt a ligament in his right knee against Houston on Sunday and is likely out for the season. Warner threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin early in the second quarter and walked off the field. He was sacked twice on Arizona's first series, and coach Dennis Green said Warner injured the medial collateral ligament in his right knee on one of those sacks. Backup Josh McCown finished the rest of the first half, but didn't return after halftime because of flulike symptoms. That left the Cardinals with third-string quarterback John Navarre, and Arizona lost 30-19. McCown was ill before the game and received intravenous fluids. At halftime, he told Green that he couldn't return. Houston played without running back Domanick Davis because of a knee injury.

Rackers To Return On Sunday

Jun 19, 2014 6:22 AM

Arizona Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers, the league's leading scorer among placement specialists, will return to action on Sunday, after missing last week's game because of a partially torn calf muscle in his plant (left) leg. It was originally believed that Rackers, who had his streak of 31 consecutive field goal conversions snapped two weeks ago, would miss three games with the injury. But the six-year veteran practiced this week and, with a slight modification to his approach, was able to kick without incident. Yet to be determined is the maximum distance from which Rackers will kick in Sunday's home game against the Washington Redskins. Nick Novak, who was signed by Arizona last week, and who spent five games with the Redskins earlier this season, will handle the kickoff duties for the Cardinals and perhaps long field goal attempts.

Cardinals Sign New Kicker

Jun 19, 2014 12:42 PM

The Arizona Cardinals signed kicker Nick Novak on Friday and released linebacker Isaac Keys. Novak kicked in five games for the Washington Redskins this season and was released on Nov. 5. He made 5-of-7 field goals and all 15 extra points in his time with the Redskins. Novak was in training camp with the Chicago Bears this season as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland. He was released Aug. 29, then claimed by the Dallas Cowboys, who released him on Sept. 3. Novak's signing came after Arizona's Neil Rackers, who has kicked 32-of-33 field goals this season, tore his left calf muscle in practice on Thursday. Rackers is expected to miss at least three games.
