Joey Porter Says Officer Struck Him
Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter has accused a California Highway Patrol officer of unlawfully striking him.
The incident took place on the night Porter was arrested on charges of drunken driving, battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
Porter's allegation is under investigation in the context of the whole incident, Sgt. Larry McGuire said Tuesday.
Cardinals Re-Sign Steve Breaston
The Cardinals have re-signed wide receiver Steve Breaston and starting center Lyle Sendlein.
Arizona also came to terms with nose tackle Gabe Watson, linebacker Monty Beisel and cornerback Michael Adams.
Porter Suspected Of Drunken Driving
Authorities say Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and accused of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.
The California Highway Patrol said Porter was confronted by officers early Saturday in a fast-food parking lot.
The 11-year veteran recently signed signed a three-year, $17.5 million deal with the Cardinals.
Dockett: McNabb Would Love To Play For Cardinals
Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett says that Donovan McNabb told him he'd love to play in Arizona.
The Eagles are listening to offers for McNabb, but they reportedly want a top-42 pick in any package for the veteran quarterback.
"I just talk to Donovan McNabb, and he would love to come to AZ, shhh I bet the NFC would be made at us for whippn ass! Mc NABB to #Birdgang," Dockett wrote on his Twitter page.
Raiders, Cardinals, Rams Deny Interest In McNabb
The St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders all answered no, either publicly or privately, when asked Thursday if they were thinking about trading for the Philadelphia Eagles' six-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo shot down a Philadelphia Inquirer report that the team had offered a second-round draft pick (No. 33 overall) and free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe to the Eagles for McNabb.
"There's nothing to that," Spagnuolo said, according to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. "We're not involved in that. At this time of year, there are going to be all kind of things thrown out there. But no, there's nothing to it."
League sources indicated to La Canfora on Wednesday that the Cardinals, Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills are interested in McNabb. Several executives on other clubs pointed to the Raiders as being in the heaviest pursuit, although two unnamed team executives told the Oakland Tribune on Thursday that they weren't aware of any calls to the Eagles about McNabb.
Cardinals Sign TE Ben Patrick
The Cardinals have signed restricted free agent tight end Ben Patrick to his one-year qualifying offer.
Arizona also re-signed safety Hamza Abdullah to a one-year contract and fullback Nehemiah Broughton to his exclusive rights contract.
Patrick has 30 career receptions for 323 yards and four touchdowns.
Cardinals Were Also Interested In Wimbley
The Arizona Cardinals were among the teams interested in trading for former Browns linebacker Kamerion Wimbley before they dealt him to Oakland. The big holdup with them, like other teams, was Wimbley's contract. Wimbley has voided the final year of his deal through performance incentives.
Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt did not want to give up a high draft pick for Wimbley without a longer-term deal in place.
The Cardinals eventually signed Joey Porter.
Cardinals Sign Joey Porter To Three-Year Deal
Linebacker Joey Porter agreed to a three-year contract Friday with the Cardinals after making the Washington Redskins his second visit.
?It is exciting on many levels,? coach Ken Whisenhunt said. ?Two areas that come to mind are his productivity on the field, (because) getting 26? sacks over the last two years is pretty impressive, especially considering last year with not even playing a full season. Also the mentality he brings, it?s something we have made great progress with as a team. Having another veteran player, who has had great success in this league, to contribute to that will only help us in an area defensively where we want to improve.?
Porter had nine sacks last season with Miami before the Dolphins cut him. He is expected to fill the starting spot held by departing free agent Chike Okeafor and gives the Cards a needed pass-rush threat.
