Russell Wilson Won't Change Approach Regardless Of Contract

Jul 1, 2015 2:11 AM

Russell Wilson will give a full effort in 2015 regardless of his contract status with the Seattle Seahawks.

"Ultimately, it comes down to the play. I let my play speak for itself and let the rest take care of itself. I continue to love the game for what it is and continue to fight and continue to play no matter how much I'm getting paid, no matter if it's $25 million or if it's $1.5 million. I'll be ready to go."

Wilson is scheduled to make $1.54 million this season in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, a $2.99 million deal he signed as a third-round draft choice in 2012.

He is believed to be seeking a multiyear deal that could make him the highest-paid player the game, a five-year contract worth more than $110 million, with at least $50 million fully guaranteed.

Michael Bennett Open To Holding Out

Jul 1, 2015 2:09 AM

Michael Bennett is unhappy with his current contract with the Seattle Seahawks and is openly considering holding out. Bennett said holding out is "definitely possible."

Bennett signed a four-year, $28.5 million contract ($16 million guaranteed) in 2014.

"I know a lot of people disagree because I don't put up all the numbers, but if you watch the games, I'm doing good things," he said. "They want me to play five positions but pay me for one."

The Seahawks also have prolonged contract talks with Russell Wilson.

Russell Wilson: The Contract Will Work Itself Out

Jul 1, 2015 2:09 AM

Russell Wilson is not distracted by or worried about his contract situation with the Seattle Seahawks.

"It's not where my focus is," Wilson said, via Madison.com. "The rest will work out. The contract will work itself out. I'm excited about it and excited to hopefully be a Seattle Seahawk for a really, really long time. So, that's the goal."

It has become increasingly clear that a deal between the Seahawks and Wilson will not get done quickly or easily.

Russell Wilson Continuing To 'Trust The Process' On Contract Talks

Jun 23, 2015 2:40 PM

Russell Wilson continues to speak publicly about his contract situation with the Seattle Seahawks.

Wilson referenced his time at NC State before transferring to Wisconsin to finish his collegiate career.

"At the end of the day I trust the process," Wilson said. "I know God's going to take me and put me where he wants to have me. I hope that's Seattle. I love it there, it's a great place. But I've gone through the ups and downs and been moved around before. I loved NC State and loved playing there and then having to go somewhere else and start new."

Wilson is seeking a deal in excess of $110 million.

Wilson, Seahawks Not Concerned Extension Talks Will Be Distraction

Jun 19, 2015 8:05 PM

The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson are not concerned extension talks will become a distraction.

Wilson took out an insurance policy in case he gets badly injured playing under the final year of his rookie deal that will pay him just $1.5 million this season.

"That's just being smart," he said of the policy, shrugging his shoulders after practice, via The News Tribune. "If I do have to play this season (without signing-bonus cash from a new, long-term contract), that's just being smart. That's all that is, really. I think that's the right thing to do."

Russell Wilson's Agent Sends 16-Page Letter To Seahawks

Jun 9, 2015 11:15 AM

Russell Wilson's agent, Mark Rodgers, sent a 16-page letter to the Seattle Seahawks stating his position on their contract talks.

Wilson is scheduled to make $1.54 million this season in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, which was a $2.99 million deal he signed as a third-round draft choice out of Wisconsin in 2012. Exactly what was said in the letter is not known, but it's likely Rodgers emphasized the point he stated in his radio interview that Wilson is prepared to play out his rookie contract and see what happens.

"Russell is under contract with the Seahawks," Rodgers said. "He absolutely would be fine playing his fourth year under the contract he signed coming out and then moving on from there. I don't feel any particular crunch on time or any real particular deadlines."

Rodgers is primarily a baseball agent who reportedly often sends detailed letters to team officials on behalf of his clients seeking new contacts. Rodgers also has a history of taking his clients into free agency and testing the open market, but that probably isn't an option for Wilson at this point.

Russell Wilson Prepared To Play 2015 Season Without Extension

Jun 4, 2015 12:31 PM

Russell Wilson is prepared to play the 2015 season without a contract extension.

Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks have had discussions though they have progressed slowly.

“I’m focused on football," said Wilson. "I’m going to be the boring, cliché answer, but it’s the truth. Ultimately I believe it will work out, hope that it does. I just take one day at a time. It’s a private matter. I don’t really talk about that kind of stuff. I’m here to play football and he’s there (his agent) to work out deals and figure out things. My focus is on football and trying to win football games for us.”

Wilson would feel comfortable entering the season without a new deal.

“Yeah, I’m prepared for that 100 percent, if that’s the case. You know, I want to be here for a long time, but if that’s the case I’ve just got to get ready to play. I love the game, and I love being out here with these guys and just playing, and so ultimately I just take it one day at a time and just see where it takes me.”

Wilson was asked if he'd be disappointed entering 2015 without an extension.

“I hope that it works, but like I said guys, I don’t talk about it. It’s just one of those things. And I’ll always be this way, so for the next 10, 15 years I’ll probably be this boring when it comes to this kind of stuff, you know? So I’m sorry about that, but ultimately it’s about coming out here and winning games and trying to be prepared for that, and that’s all my focus really has been. I was down in San Diego training for three months and just trying to get ready with my trainer Ryan Flaherty. That’s kind of been my sole focus for the most part. And trying to be a better person, too, and trying to be a better teammate, and just try to be there as much as I can and just continue to grow, you know? It’s a maturation process every day, and if I take a day of rest that’s not good enough for me in terms of just trying to continue to grow as a football player, and as a person an all those things. So that’s where I’m looking.”
