After the Steelers didn?t welcome back Marvel Smith this winter, the veteran decided he?d continue his career near his most faithful supporters. Smith agreed to a two-year deal Monday to return to his native Bay Area with the 49ers, who expect him to be their starting right tackle, according to an Associated Press report.

Free agent OT Marvel Smith, the former Steelers Pro Bowl standout has agreed on a multiyear contract with the 49ers, according to an ESPN report on Friday. Details of the contract, confirmed by sources close to Smith, were not yet available. But in a deal that protects the 49ers if Smith suffers further back problems, the nine-year veteran can earn more than $10M, if he is healthy for the first two seasons of the contract.

San Francisco quarterback Shaun Hill said on Friday that he wasn't bothered by the team's courting of Kurt Warner last month. "College was the same way. That's just the way it's always been and I guess that's all I know," Hill said. "I don't get sensitive about stuff like that. I just show up and try to do the best I can." Hill is 7-3 as a starter and his 90.5 passer rating last season ranked ahead of notables such as Eli Manning (86.4), Jay Cutler (86.0) and Brett Favre (81.0). "He's a future Hall of Famer," Hill said of Warner, who ultimately re-signed with the Cardinals.

New Niners Uniforms Won't Hit Field Until 2010

The 49ers will unveil their new uniforms during a draft party, but they won't actually hit the field until the 2010 season. This is from the NFL in regard to the procedure for changing uniforms: "A club must give written notice and details thereof to the League by March 1 of the year prior to the year in which it wishes to change and must submit the final design and physical samples of the uniforms to the League office for approval by November 1 of that same year."
