Harris Has Torn ACL

May 17, 2014 12:39 AM

Walt Harris injured his ACL in Tuesday's practice when he became tangled with receiver Dominique Zeigler along the sideline. Harris stayed down for several minutes after the play and had to be helped by a trainer to a nearby cart. Harris will have surgery on the knee either next week or the week after. The 49ers have not given a prognosis, but we all know that when the ACL is involved there's a very good likelihood that it will be a season-ending injury.

49ers Could Be Interested In Vick

Aug 12, 2014 1:05 AM

San Francisco general manager Scot McCloughan was asked about the team's interest in Michael Vick on Wednesday. "The thing about it, he?s got to be re-instated first," said McCloughan. "The guy has physical skills to play in the NFL, there?s no doubt about it. But it?s been two years since you?ve seen him on the football field. "We?ll have to see how it plays out. We put a value on every player. Same with the draft, same with free agency, same with contracts." He was then asked if the public reception would be a potential factor. "It plays into it," said McCloughan. "Especially with what we?re building here, we don?t want to pull away from that and make an exception. Because we?re not one player away from winning a world championship. We?re a group of guys believing in each other, staying healthy and going through a full season, and getting through the tough times? There?s never a player that I would just sit back and say there?s not a value for him to be on our team. But you?ve got to weigh the importance for the whole organization and how it affects the other 52.

DeBartolo Jr. To Be Inducted To 49ers Hall Of Fame

Aug 22, 2014 1:20 PM

The 49ers will induct former owner, Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., into the team's Hall of Fame this season. The ceremony will take place during the team's home opener against the Seahawks on September 20, 2009. Earlier this month, the 49ers Hall of Fame was dedicated to Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. "I can't think of a single person that is more deserving of this honor than my uncle," said 49ers Team President Jed York. "With a distinct vision, he took over an average team and transformed it into arguably the greatest dynasty in professional sports over a 20-year span. We are excited to have an opportunity to recognize all of Eddie's contributions to the 49ers organization during the upcoming season."

Alex Smith Knows He Has Just One More Chance With Niners

Aug 25, 2014 10:54 AM

Alex Smith, the first player taken in the 2005 draft, knows that he's down to his last chance with the 49ers. "I think I'm in a very different place mentally than where I was even last year," the quarterback said. "Obviously, when you're hurt in back-to-back years, you're kind of searching. Before this I worried about things that were out of my control and let them affect me, affect my mind, affect my attitude, which in turn affected my play and performance. And I came to the conclusion ? this is honest, I'm not BSing ? I'll control what I can control, which is especially my attitude and state of mind and work ethic. And the rest I'm going to let run off me. "I got married this offseason. I'm really stable outside of football. With all the media stuff and what I went through with (Mike) Nolan and my injuries, I've reached a point if I let any of that get to me or if I think about it or dwell on it or get that in my head, it ends up having a negative effect on me. I'm not going to dwell on what people think of me."

Mangini Denies He Leaked Negative Reports About Crabtree

Aug 24, 2014 10:50 AM

Browns coach Eric Mangini has denied claims that he leaked negative reports about former Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree prior to the NFL Draft. Texas Tech coach Mike Leach accused Mangini of leaking reports that the wide receiver acted like a diva during meetings with Cleveland. "I can tell you I had a good visit with Michael," Mangini said Friday. "I'm really happy he got drafted where he got drafted, and he'll have a great career. And I said that after his visit. Nothing's changed. Nothing changed from that point. Nothing will change two or three months from now." Obviously, Leach sees things differently. "Michael Crabtree has been more successful as a receiver than that guy has as a coach at this point," Leach told the Sacramento (Calif.) Bee. "Part of the reason is [Crabtree's] too shy to be like that." Leach went on to question Mangini further, saying, "Let's see how all those non-divas do up in Cleveland this year."
