Raiders, Chargers To Kickoff At Nearly Midnight On East Coast

May 17, 2014 11:16 PM

The Oakland Raiders will play the San Diego Chargers on Sunday with an 11:35 PM ET kickoff.

The game was moved to accomodate the Oakland A's playoff game on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers. Stadium employees will need that much time to configure the stadium from baseball to football.

The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

The proper "Sunday Night Football" matchup between the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers remains an 8:30 p.m. ET start on NBC.

Gruden: Raiders' OC Olson Successfully Creating Chaos

Jul 31, 2014 10:40 PM

Jon Gruden praised Greg Olson's early work as offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders.

"What Greg has done is created a lot of chaos," Gruden said.

Gruden hired Olson as his quarterbacks coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008.

Olson calls Gruden one of his biggest influences as an offensive coach, citing his "presentation and preparation," as well as Gruden's belief of being a team that applies pressure rather than feeling pressure.

"You're going to have to deal with (Darren) McFadden; on the other side you're going to have to deal with Pryor and the option, the zone read and all the nuances that go along with that," Gruden said.

"I've seen Wildcat formations. I've see shifts to no-back sets. I've seen them bring in (Matt) McCants, a big offensive tackle, to play tight end. You're seeing a coordinator that's doing everything he can to adapt to a new quarterback."

Jul 10, 2014 3:39 AM

The Oakland Raiders have signed Marcel Reece to a three-year extension worth more than $13 million.

Reece will receive $7.2 million in guaranteed money, which is the most ever given to a fullback.

Reece was a Pro Bowl selection last season with 496 receiving yards on 52 catches while also rushing 4.6 yards per carry.

"It's another step to my goal -- being a Raider for life. I plan on playing for as long as God will allow me to. If it's for a lot longer, I want it all to be with the Raiders," Reece said, via the team's official website. "Al Davis believed in me more than I did myself at times, and it meant a lot to me. I take it to heart and I take it seriously. Mark Davis has loved me the same."

Pryor Playing With Memory Of Encouraging Words From Al Davis

May 22, 2014 1:12 AM

Terrelle Pryor had an impressive start in Week 1 in the Oakland Raiders' loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Pryor threw for 217 yards while also rushing for 112.

Pryor was one of the last major transactions made by Al Davis before his passing in 2011 when he was a supplemental pick.

“I owe Mr. Davis,’’ said Pryor. “This man believed I’d be a star quarterback. He said that to me multiple times. He took a chance on me when other teams wouldn’t. And I think he was smiling down a little bit today, watching this. This may sound crazy, but every day I’m thankful for what he did for me.”

Raiders, Chargers Could Switch Home Games To Avoid A's Playoff Game

Sep 30, 2014 7:50 PM

The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders may switch home dates this season due to a conflict with the Oakland Athletics.

The A's will likely play in the playoffs while the Raiders are scheduled to host the Chargers on October 6.

If that game is moved to San Diego, then the Raiders would host the Chargers on December 22.

“We monitor the baseball playoff situation every year,” a league spokesman said. “If there is any change to our schedule, we would announce it at the appropriate time.”
