Agent: Raiders Starting Terrelle Pryor In Hopes He Fails

Jul 12, 2014 11:02 AM

The Oakland Raiders will start Terrelle Pryor in Week 17 against the Denver Broncos in an audition for the 2014 quarterback job.

The Raiders have been starting Matt McGloin.

"I think they're putting him in hopes that he fails," agent Jerome Stanley told CSN Bay Area on Monday. "I think they're putting him in hopes that he has a bad game, so (Allen) can then justify the Matt McGloin situation.

"You have to understand the coach is putting him in, he doesn't want him to look good," Stanley added. "And you can write that. ... If he looks good this week, it makes the past five weeks look like a bad decision."

Pryor later apologized for his agent's comments via Twitter.

Terrelle Pryor On Benching: It Is What It Is

Jul 6, 2014 7:43 AM

Terrelle Pryor has kept a low profile since his benching as quarterback with the Oakland Raiders after they've moved to Matt McGloin.

"I could sit here and say I disagree and this and that, but, at the end of the day, coach (Dennis) Allen is our leader and he's the one that has to make tough decisions," Pryor said. "He made one, and it is what it is."

Allen had said in October that Oakland planned to "continue to try to build with (Pryor) and try to grow with him."

But the Raiders didn't learn of a knee injury to Pryor until he told media members about it after his struggles in a loss to the New York Giants.

Dennis Allen Believes Raiders 'A Lot Closer' Despite Record

Oct 31, 2014 9:20 PM

Dennis Allen was asked on Monday if the Oakland Raiders' front office has offered any assurances he will return as head coach in 2014.

"Listen, that's not what my job is," Allen said. "My job is to try to get this team better, get this team ready to play against the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I'm not going to talk about speculation or anything like that. I'm going to worry about winning a football game this week."

The Raiders are 4-9 with three games remaining.

"We're a lot closer," Allen said. "Obviously the record doesn't say so. We all recognize that, at the end of the day, this is a production business. We understand that you are what your record says you are.

"But I also know there's a lot of areas where this football team has improved. We've got to continue to improve in those areas and other areas so that we're able to win football games and not come away and be disappointed."

Jared Veldheer, Raiders Discuss New Deal

Oct 31, 2014 8:27 AM

The Oakland Raiders are in contract talks with Jared Veldheer, who will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Veldheer is one of the NFL's most talented young left tackles.

“They’re in talks right now,” Veldheer said in an interview with John Lund and Greg Papa. “I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about finishing the year out and playing these last four games. I want to help this team as much as possible and to help turn that page and get going where we need to go.

“I believe that, if I handle that and play as well as I can play, good things will follow there. I’m really hoping and I’m pretty confident that I’ll continue to keep playing in Oakland.”
