Raiders' QB Situation Remains Cloudy After Poor Performance From Pryor

Oct 31, 2014 8:51 AM

The Oakland Raiders have yet to name a starting quarterback following a disappointing performance on Thursday from Terrelle Pryor.

Matt Flynn sat out with a sore arm.

Pryor had previously looked like he might grab control of the job ahead of Week 1.

"I didn't have some of my guys, guys I was working with all week," Pryor said. "I'll get better. It's crunch time now."

McFadden Wants To Remain With Raiders Long-Term

Oct 31, 2014 10:42 AM

Darren McFadden is interested in re-signing with the Oakland Raiders long-term, but they have yet to reach out about an extension.

“I love being a Raider,” McFadden said. “As long as they want to bring me back and have me here for as long as they want to have me – I love being a Raider, and I’m here.”

The Raiders have already extended Sebastian Janikowski and Jon Condo.

“They haven’t reached out to me,” McFadden said.

McFadden averaged just 3.3 yards per carry last season in an offense that didn't suit his style of running.

Terrelle Pryor Impressive Against Bears, Could Become Raiders' Starter

Jun 18, 2014 12:26 PM

Terrelle Pryor went 7-for-9 for 93 yards and one touchdown along with one 25-yard touchdown run for the Oakland Raiders on Friday against the Chicago Bears.

With Matt Pryor being intercepted twice, the Raiders' starting quarterback job is up for grabs.

“I think we’ll have to take a look at it," said Dennis Allen. "I don’t think Matt played well. Terrelle came in and gave us a spark. I’m not going to make any decisions tonight."

“I just want to go out and compete,’’ Pryor said. “To me, that’s just what I do. That’s how I expect to play. My teammates stepped up and made a lot of plays for me.’’

Pryor Studied Kaepernick In Read-Option

Nov 28, 2014 3:01 PM

The Oakland Raiders had Terrelle Pryor study the pistol and read-option in the offseason.

Pryor often used Colin Kaepernick as the basis for his study.

“We did a lot of studying on (Colin) Kaepernick and how he did it,” Pryor said. “There are so many different options and plays you can call out of that package. (Coordonator Greg Olson) did a wonderful job of honing in on it and understanding exactly what defenses were trying to do and how they were trying to stop it.”

Pryor also studied how Tom Brady maintains balance and comfort while throwing.

Pryor ran the pistol and read-option in the preseason opener and will do so again against the Saints on Friday.

Be The GM: Eric Weddle Or Jared Veldheer

Sep 5, 2014 2:53 AM

The Oakland Raiders have had great players for most of their history and the San Diego Chargers have had a number of transcendent talents over the past two decades, but finding two representatives with star power for our "Be The GM" series was difficult.

Without any options at quarterback or on defense and Darren McFadden proving too unreliable, the bet for the Raiders is on the potential of Jared Veldheer at left tackle. Eric Weddle has become one of the most underrated talents in the NFL, a free safety that would be a household name if he played for a franchise with wider national exposure and is an easy pick for the Chargers now that Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates have aged out of their primes.

Veldheer was a third round pick by the Raiders in 2010 out of Hillsdale with a 6-8, 321 pound frame. Veldheer as started at left tackle since the middle of his rookie season.

Veldheer is in a contract year and his physique has been frequently buzzed about in the offseason as the Raiders implement a power blocking scheme. Veldheer has evolved to become an excellent pass blocker and 2013 is almost certainly going to be a season in which he solidifies himself as one of the NFL's best left tackles.

Weddle couldn't be spotted in a lineup, according to Warren Sapp, and that is true but he also was graded as having the best season at safety since Pro Football Focus was launched. Many questioned the Chargers' logic in making Weddle the highest paid safety in the NFL, but he has gone on to earn that contract.

In 2012, Weddle had 83 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. During the previous season, Weddle intercepted seven balls.

Weddle is still just 28 and is incredibly durable and should be among the NFL's most reliably elite secondary players for many years to come.
