Jets Offense Has Been Clicking Since Sam Darnold-Adam Gase Meeting

Nov 19, 2019 8:36 AM

The New York Jets have put up 68 total points in back-to-back wins, an offensive improvement that came following an important meeting.

According to Sam Darnold and Adam Gase, a meeting between the quarterback and head coach a few weeks ago played a major role in the positive steps forward.

Darnold told Gase the things he felt most comfortable doing in the offense, which Gase said "makes it easier because now you're not guessing" about what's best for the offense.

"I think it was really important for me at the time because I felt like I had a lot better understanding of the offense at that point during the season and I felt like I knew the offense well enough to go in and have a really good conversation with him about it," Darnold said. "That's really all it was. As an offense, I feel like we've been able to find our rhythm and it's been really good. Hopefully we can continue that this week."

Jets Will Retain Adam Gase For 2020 Season

Nov 13, 2019 3:45 PM

The New York Jets will retain Adam Gase as head coach in 2020 despite a 2-7 record.

"I want to assure you there will be no changes in coaches here," Jets CEO Christopher Johnson said in an opening statement to reporters. "Adam has the trust of this team. He has the trust of Sam [Darnold]. He has Joe [Douglas'] trust. He has my trust. He's a good man, he's a good coach."

Johnson was asked whether his commitment also applies after the 2019 season.

"Even after the season," he said.

The Jets have one of their worst offenses in franchise history despite Gase being hired for his perceived offensive acumen.

"It's the trust I see," Johnson said when asked why he was still confident in Gase. "Seeing him work with Sam ... gives me a lot of confidence. Seeing him work with Joe. It's a whole new dynamic in this building. It's a really positive dynamic. They have the same vision for this team going forward.

"There are a number of reasons, but those are two really big ones why I feel confident about Adam as our coach going forward."

Exec: Adam Gase Is What Happens When You Omit Homework On Candidate

Nov 6, 2019 11:59 AM

Adam Gase has had a disappointing start to his tenure as head coach of the New York Jets, evidenced by both the team's record and the way Sam Darnold has regressed.

Gase was largely hired to help develop Darnold with his supporters citing his history working with Peyton Manning.

"This is what happens when you don't do your homework on a coaching candidate," said one NFC team executive on Gase.

Many teams already believed Gase wasn't a good coach.

Le'Veon Bell: Four Teams Tried To Trade For Me

Nov 1, 2019 9:02 PM

The New York Jets held onto Le'Veon Bell past this week's trade deadline, but the running back says talks were intensive.

Bell says the Jets received trade interest from four teams.

"I found out through my agent he had talked to the Jets and there were teams like Houston, the Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs and, surprisingly, the Steelers were all in the mix in trying to trade for me," Bell said. "The Jets were really asking for a high price and a lot for me. On top of that, my actual contract was kind of tough for teams to deal with, which is understandable. Not too many teams want to pay that high of a price for a running back."

The Jets signed Bell to a four-year, $52.5 million contract in the offseason.
