Sep 19, 2019 9:36 AM

The NFL fined Jamal Adams $21,506 for a roughing the passer penalty against Baker Mayfield on Monday night.

The New York Jets safety blasted the league on social media after receiving the fine.

Adams posted a video clip of the play from the Jets' 23-3 loss, saying: "This league is a damn joke! ... I signed up to play football not two hand touch. Bulls---! I don't give a damn about these soft rules protecting QBs. I'm gonna play MY brand of football everytime I step on the field."

He is known as a hard-hitting player, but Adams hasn't been heavily penalized or fined in his career.

OBJ: Gregg Williams Teaches 'Cheap Shots'

Sep 13, 2019 8:38 AM

Odell Beckham, Jr. is adding a subplot to Monday night's Cleveland Browns-New York Jets game.

Beckham accused Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams of teaching "cheap shots" and "dirty hits." The receiver said those cheap shots led to an ankle injury that almost derailed his career two years ago.

"If I was a coach, I would never teach what he teaches," he said. "But that's just him and what he does."

In a 2017 preseason game, when Beckham was with the New York Giants and Williams was Cleveland's defensive coordinator, Beckham sprained his ankle after being undercut by cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun, who drove his shoulder and helmet into the star receiver's left leg.

Beckham tried to come back from that injury too soon and ultimately broke his ankle.

The star receiver said that according to his Cleveland teammates, Williams, who eventually became Cleveland's interim head coach last year before taking a job with the Jets, actually told the Browns players to try to hurt Beckham during that 2017 preseason game.

"I had people who were here when he was here telling [them], 'If you get a chance, take a shot at him. If you can, hurt him. I guarantee he's going to leave the game hurt,' and stuff like that," Beckham said. "We're all men out here. There's no need for doing any of that kind of stuff. Make the plays the best you can clean."

Jets Promote Hymie Elhai To Team President

Sep 3, 2019 10:45 AM

The New York Jets announced that Hymie Elhai, the team’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel, has been named President.

Currently entering his 20th year with the Jets, Elhai will report to Chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson and oversee all team business operations. Elhai will also work with Head Coach Adam Gase and General Manager Joe Douglas to integrate football and business operations.

“For over 20 years Hymie has developed a deep level of respect from both sides of the building,” said Johnson. “Over that time, he has grown to be an invaluable and trusted confidant for many, including, in recent years, myself.  Specifically, I witnessed first-hand, his leadership, communication and organizational acumen during our recent head coach and general manager searches. I expect Hymie to be a key unifier, working alongside Adam and Joe, for our organization moving forward.”

“I am honored to be given this opportunity and thankful to The Johnson Family for entrusting me with the responsibility and all that comes along with it,” said Elhai. “I have a deep appreciation and respect for this franchise, what it means to our fans, the communities we serve, as well as our business partners.”

Elhai began his professional career as an intern with the Jets and was hired full-time in 2002 as the manager of legal affairs and business development. He recently completed his fifth season as senior vice president, business affairs and general counsel where he was responsible for all legal aspects of the team, including sponsorship, licensing, event, digital media, production and broadcasting agreements, and all employment related matters. For the past couple of seasons, Elhai has also provided counsel and guidance to football administration on all planning initiatives.  In 2016, Elhai was a Sports Business Journal Forty Under 40 honoree.
