Jamal Adams Sent Patriots Mascot To Hospital With Tackle

Jan 25, 2019 8:17 AM

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams tackled Pat the Patriot on the sidelines during Pro Bowl practice on Thursday.

The hit resulted in the New England Patriots mascot being sent to the hospital.

The exchange began as a joke, but took a turn with the apparent injury.

Adams says the NFL has been calling him about the incident.

"He [the mascot] was running around and everybody was booing him, so I said, 'You know what? Let me go tackle him,'" Adams said. "I didn't hit him that hard, man. All jokes aside, I didn't hit him that hard. I don't know what's really going on, but they did tell me he's in the hospital. My intention was never to hurt him. it was all about just a joke but I definitely want to check on him and make sure everything is good. At the end of the day we were out here just having fun and it wasn't nothing intentionally to try to hurt the guy."

Jets Hire Gregg Williams As Defensive Coordinator

Jan 15, 2019 4:53 PM

The New York Jets have agreed to hire Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator.

Williams spent last season as defensive coordinator and interim head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Williams' arrival likely means a radical change for the Jets, who have operated a 3-4 base defense since 2006. Williams typically runs an attacking 4-3 scheme with heavy blitzing.

With the third pick in the draft, the Jets are in position to select a top defensive lineman or perhaps a much-needed edge rusher.

Mike McCarthy Will Sit Out 2019, Plans To Interview For Jobs In 2020

Jan 9, 2019 10:43 PM

Mike McCarthy will sit out the 2019 season and plans on returning in 2020.

McCarthy only pursued the head coaching job of the New York Jets, who will hire Adam Gase.

McCarthy interviewed with the Jets last weekend but declined the chance to interview with the Browns.

"We looked at everything, and it was either New York or stay out. That was our outlook," McCarthy said. "My family's excited. We were eating dinner when I got the message [about the Jets], and they all started cheering. So it was kind of funny. I think it tells you where they're at."

McCarthy has five children, four of whom are still school-aged.

Jets To Hire Adam Gase As Head Coach

Jan 10, 2019 11:19 AM

The New York Jets will hire Adam Gase as head coach.

Gase was fired at the end of the season by the Miami Dolphins after three seasons. Gase was just 23-25 but won five of six games against the Jets.

The Jets reached out to Gase as soon as he was fired by the Dolphins.

Multiple sources say the Jets wanted to make sure they hired the right coach to help develop Sam Darnold. While Darnold didn't impose his opinion, he personally felt Gase was the right guy.

Mike McCarthy and Matt Rhule were also candidates.
