USC Announce $270M Renovation Plans For Coliseum

Oct 30, 2015 11:18 AM

The University of Southern California announced plans for extensive renovations for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that could allow it to stage the 2024 Olympics and also serve as a temporary site for an NFL team next season.

The $270 million renovation will bring premium suites and boxes, along with more aisles and new seating for the entire stadium.

"Everybody is going to get a new, great fan experience," USC athletic director Pat Haden told reporters. "You don't have to climb over 18 people to get a hot dog."

Construction is not expected to begin until after the 2017 USC football season and could be completed by the start of the 2019 season.

Todd Dickey, USC's senior vice president, said the NFL has "strongly indicated" the league would like a team to play at the Coliseum in 2016, possibly for two or three seasons.

Jeff Fisher Uninterested In Leaving Rams For USC

Oct 21, 2015 9:00 PM

Jeff Fisher has no interest in leaving the St. Louis Rams to become head coach at USC.

Lee Corso of ESPN mentioned Fisher as the candidate who should be at the top of USC's list.

"I didn't see it because I was in a place with no TV, which is a good thing," Fisher said. "I've heard things, but no. I appreciate whatever anybody else is saying out there, but I made a commitment to Stan (Kroenke) here, and I'm going to keep that commitment."

Fisher's name comes up seemingly every time the USC job opens because he played for the Trojans from 1977 to 1980 and still holds his alma mater in high regard.

Before USC hired Steve Sarkisian in 2013, Fisher was brought up as the "favorite" for the job, but when asked, he called the rumors "absurd."

St. Louis Stadium Will Cost Taxpayers $215M More Than Promised

Oct 7, 2015 1:12 PM

According to documents FOIA’d by St. Louis Magazine, taxpayers would be obligated to pay significantly more money for a new stadium in St. Louis for the Rams than politicians have been claiming.

Missouri has committed $240 million toward a new stadium, and the city of St. Louis another $150 million. There will be an extra $215 million through 2051.

National Car Rental has agreed to a 20-year, $158 million agreement to name the stadium, but there is no mention of whether that money will help pay for the stadium.

Deal Between Rams, Chargers In Los Angeles Possible

Oct 7, 2015 12:08 PM

Some owners believe the St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers may be able to strike a deal to work together on a football stadium in Los Angeles.

The Rams have previously wanted to work alone on their proposed stadium in Inglewood, while the Chargers have been working with the Oakland Raiders on a site in Carson.

Some owners actively oppose Stan Kroenke’s desire to move the Rams, believing that Dean Spanos has tried long enough to get a new stadium in San Diego.

The Raiders have become an afterthought with the Rams-Chargers impasse.

Todd Gurley Receives Game Ball In First NFL Game

Oct 5, 2015 12:42 PM

Todd Gurley received the game ball in his first NFL game, rushing 19 times for 146 yards in the St. Louis Rams' win at the Arizona Cardinals.

Gurley's performance came just 10 months after reconstructive knee surgery and he had nine carries for 106 yards in the final 12 minutes of the game.

“This is just the beginning,” Jeff Fisher said.

“The way I’ve been coached here,” Gurley said over the phone after the game, “I know in a four-minute situation at the end of the half or the end of the game, if you have the lead, you don’t go out of bounds, and you don’t stop the clock. On that play, I didn’t care about the touchdown. I just cared about the win.”
