Rodgers Out For Season, But Favre Expected To Return

Jul 1, 2014 1:35 PM

Aaron Rodgers broke his left foot during Sunday's game against New England and is out for the rest of 2006, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. Rodgers was in the game as a replacement for Brett Favre who had left with a hurt nerve in his right elbow. "On a personal level, you feel terrible for him, because the first thing you think about is here's a guy who has been here since March 20, he's been here every day going through the quarterback school, getting ready to potentially be the starter for our football team,'' McCarthy said. "He finally gets the opportunity to play and that happens to him.'' Favre is expected to be ready for the Packers next game against Seattle.

Favre Hurts Right Elbow

Jul 1, 2014 6:34 AM

Packers quarterback Brett Favre left the field holding his right elbow late in the second quarter Sunday of Green Bay's game against the New England Patriots. Favre, making his 251st consecutive start including playoffs, had been wrapped up low by Tully Banta-Cain and was on his way down when Tedy Bruschi hit Favre, forcing him down hard on his right arm and throwing shoulder with 1:41 left in the half. Favre, 5-for-15 for 73 yards at that point, doubled over in immediate pain, grasping at his wrist and elbow. The team said he injured his right elbow and his return was questionable.

McCarthy Wants Favre Back

Jul 1, 2014 1:43 PM

Brett Favre is wanted back by Mike McCarthy, according to Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer. Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday" that the Packers' coach disclosed his intentions for the Green Bay Packers quarterback during an interview Saturday night. Glazer was the sideline reporter for the Packers' game at Minnesota on Sunday afternoon on Fox, working with play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert and analyst Brian Baldinger. "Everybody talks about him retiring," Glazer said, referring to Favre. "But (Saturday) night, his head coach, Mike McCarthy, told me, 'I am going to try to convince Brett to come back one more year.' " Glazer said he asked McCarthy why he wanted Favre to return. "(McCarthy) said, 'I really think he is not part of the problem. I think he is part of the solution. You guys see certain things on the surface that may not be particularly true. We'd love to have him back for one more year.' "
