Aug 7, 2014 12:47 AM

The Broncos have improved their air attack by completing a trade for Green Bay's Javon Walker. The Broncos traded out of the No. 37 slot to acquire Walker, who missed all but one game last year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Packers Appear Likely To Select Vernon Davis

Sep 26, 2014 5:35 AM

The Green Bay Packers appear to desire tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson of Virginia even more than they covet tight end Vernon Davis of Maryland in a suspenseful National Football League draft that will begin to unfold late this morning. Thus, if running back Reggie Bush, quarterback Vince Young and Ferguson join top pick Mario Williams off the board by No. 5, it would seem that their most likely move would be to choose Davis, the fastest and probably most athletic tight end ever to enter the league.

Miami Enters Fray For Walker

Nov 14, 2014 11:00 AM

According to a league source, the Dolphins have joined the discussion with the Packers about acquiring Walker. The Broncos have considered acquiring Walker since last month, when coach Mike Shanahan made informal inquiries around the league, including to former Packers coach Mike Sherman, now on the coaching staff of the Houston Texans. Walker, who publicly has threatened to retire instead of again playing for the Packers, is under contract for the 2006 season. He is in Tallahassee, Fla., attending classes at Florida State University, where he also played for the Seminoles.

Woodson Signs With Packers

Oct 9, 2014 4:00 PM

The Green Bay Packers made their first major splash in the free-agent market this offseason, agreeing to terms with defensive back Charles Woodson on Wednesday. Woodson's agent, Kevin Poston, said the Packers agreed to a seven-year deal for $52.7 million, including $10.5 million in the first year of the contract. Packers general manager Ted Thompson declined comment. Woodson's signing comes a day after Brett Favre told the team he would return to play the 2006 season. Favre previously urged the team to make a "statement" in free agency, similar to the signing of Reggie White in 1993.

Denver Could Still Trade For Walker

May 17, 2014 1:30 AM

An NFL source said the Packers and Broncos recently discussed the availability of disgruntled Green Bay wide receiver Javon Walker. There is a chance Walker will be traded by this weekend's draft, and the Broncos are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Walker, who is recovering from a torn ACL. The Packers are believed to be asking for multiple draft picks for Walker. Denver and other interested teams, including Philadelphia and San Francisco, are expected to talk with Green Bay as the draft approaches. There is a chance Denver will try to involve wide receiver Ashley Lelie in a deal. Lelie wants to be traded, and his agents and the team are shopping him. Denver is expected to draft a receiver early, perhaps with its first pick at No. 15, where Ohio State's Santonio Holmes and Florida's Chad Jackson could be available.

Favre's Pitch Couldn't Convince Arrington

Sep 8, 2014 12:51 AM

LaVar Arrington told the Washington Times last weekend that Brett Favre intervened on the Packers' behalf late in the process to strongly encourage the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker to sign with the Packers. Arrington told the newspaper that Favre nearly swayed him to accept an offer from Green Bay that was thought to be for more money than what the Giants offered. One of Arrington's agents, Kevin Poston, confirmed that Arrington didn't take the best offer on the table, telling the Newark Star-Ledger that one of the teams offered slightly more, although he declined to name the team. The Packers and Giants were thought to be the two finalists in the Arrington sweepstakes, with Miami and Jacksonville making pitches as well. Packers general manager Ted Thompson said he had no knowledge of Favre playing a role in recruiting Arrington. Neither Poston nor Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, could be reached for comment.

The Packers apparently appear set on Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk, and the Titans are focusing on a quarterback, either Southern California's Matt Leinart or Texas' Vince Young. The third team is unknown.
