Agent Calls Walker's Salary A Disservice

Oct 19, 2014 7:38 PM

Wide receiver Javon Walker's unhappiness about his contract, feelings that have lain dormant for the better part of six months, are beginning to surface once again. His agent, Kennard McGuire, let it be known Friday at the National Scouting combine that neither he nor his client was close to being satisfied with Walker's $650,000 base salary for 2006 with the Green Bay Packers. "Obviously, I think the salary is a disservice to him," McGuire said.

Favre Still Mulling Future

Oct 19, 2014 7:37 PM

Brett Favre has been in touch with Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson and new coach Mike McCarthy on an almost weekly basis of late, but there is nothing new to report regarding his decision to possibly retire ? a decision that Favre and wife Deanna are contemplating. The fact that Favre is calling regularly from his Mississippi farm to check in would seem to be a positive sign that he is still open to returning for a 16th season after a miserable 4-12 campaign that saw him throw a career-high 29 interceptions. "We've had some really nice conversations and I really like Brett and Deanna," Thompson said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "I haven't tried to speculate. I know what I want him to do. But this is going to be their decision and I'm comfortable with that."

Aikman Thinks Favre Will Retire

Jun 1, 2014 11:05 AM

Troy Aikman believes the Green Bay Packers' struggles will likely drive Brett Favre into retirement. "I'd hate to see him retire," Aikman told The Associated Press on Sunday. "But I know that going out and having seasons like what he went through this past year is really frustrating and it just isn't much fun. So I don't know what he's going to do. I think the fact that he is having a hard time making the decision, in some ways, to me, that kind of has made the decision for him." Favre hasn't said whether he will return to the Packers, who are coming off a 4-12 season -- their only losing season with Favre under center. Aikman, a television analyst for Fox, hasn't spoken with Favre since the end of the season but is one of several high-profile former quarterbacks Favre has asked for advice on retirement. "Over the years, Brett and I have talked a lot about kind of what happened at the end of my career, kind of where he's at right now," said Aikman, who was at Daytona International Speedway to oversee the debut of Hall of Fame Racing, the NASCAR team he founded with Roger Staubach. "And Brett has drawn some comparisons to what he's currently going through with what I went through at the end of my career -- not from a health standpoint, but just kind of where the team is." Aikman said the Cowboys' downturn was more of a factor than a string of concussions in his retirement decision. Aikman said Favre is in a similar situation.

Packers Hope Javon Walker Can Return Healthy

Oct 19, 2014 7:40 PM

If Javon Walker makes a full recovery from his torn anterior cruciate ligament, he and Donald Driver give the Packers one of football's best receiving tandems. Of course, that's a big if. "I don't know much about Javon's injury," Robinson said shortly after getting the job. "But history has shown players come back just fine from that. "And if he does, you've got two guys there that have been Pro Bowl performers, so that's a pretty good start. With most teams, you're lucky to have one."

Packers' McCarthy Doesn't Believe It Is A Rebuilding Project

Oct 19, 2014 7:38 PM

Mike McCarthy has taken over as coach of a storied NFL team that just might be headed for hard times. ? Two of the Green Bay Packers? best players, halfback Ahman Green and receiver Javon Walker, are coming off serious injuries with no guarantees they?ll be what they were. ? Quarterback Brett Favre might retire. ? The team is coming off a 4-12 season, its worst since 1991, the year before Favre arrived. But McCarthy, 42, who was named the Packers? coach on Jan. 12, insists his team is not rebuilding. With the unbounded optimism that goes with a coaching change and having almost finished hiring a coaching staff, he has his sights on getting the Packers back to the postseason in 2006. ?I wouldn?t say it?s a rebuilding project, because those are ifs, they?re not exacts,? McCarthy said of Green, Walker and Favre.
