Packers' McKenzie Still Waiting To Hear From Houston

Oct 22, 2014 5:50 AM

Reggie McKenzie, the Packers? director of pro personnel, said on Sunday he has still not heard from the Houston Texans, even though the organization on Saturday asked the Packers for permission to interview him for their vacant general manager position. ?I?ll wait for them to call, I guess,? McKenzie said. ?It?s an honor to be considered, but make no bones about it, I love working for the Packers, and my family loves it here. We?ll see where it goes.?

Roman Appears Out Of A Job In Green Bay

Oct 7, 2014 3:01 PM

Mark Roman appears to be on his way out of a starting job ?and perhaps out of a roster spot for the Green Bay Packers. Two weeks after saying he was unsure whether he?d attend the voluntary three-day session, Roman met with coach Mike McCarthy on Thursday and took part in both practices on Friday. In fact, Roman worked with No. 1 defense as a starting safety, but it?s a position that?s almost certain to go to free-agent acquisition Marquand Manuel.

Javon Walker is set to sign a new contract with the Denver Broncos. "We do have a deal in place," Walker's agent, Kennard McGuire, wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "I can't give you details," McGuire added, other than to confirm the extension was worth between $40 million and $42 million. The Broncos have a special policy not to disclose contract amounts. Walker's contract will take him through the 2011 season and is expected to be signed on Wednesday.

Rodgers Looks Impressive In Mincamp

Oct 7, 2014 6:15 PM

Aaron Rodgers is beginning to show that life without Brett Favre, whenever it might happen, may not look so bad. "I was really pleased with Aaron," offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski said. "Absolutely. His arm strength. The way he got that thing out. And his deep ball was good. "He's got it. He just needs a chance to do it."

Rodgers The Big Loser In Favre's Return

Oct 22, 2014 5:55 AM

The return of Brett Favre for one, possibly two more seasons, hurts Aaron Rodgers the most, both in terms of his development and his check book. Rodgers? contract with the Green Bay Packers is structured with escalator clauses that would increase his base salaries beginning in 2007 if he reaches certain playing-time incentives in the first two years of the deal. Rodgers didn?t come close to the 50 percent minimum playing-time escalator as a rookie last year, and probably won?t again this season unless Favre gets hurt. Rodgers? base salary for this season ($310,000) can?t change, but his base in 2007 ($505,000) could increase by as much as $1 million. If he plays 60 percent of the snaps this season, his base salaries from 2007 through 2009 would increase by $625,000 per season. If he plays 80 percent of the snaps, those salaries go up $1 million in 2007 and 2008 and $1.05 million in 2009. Had Rodgers met the playing-time marks last season and did so again in 2006, he could have increased his 2007 base salary by as much as $2 million. ?It?s all relative to me,? Rodgers said Sunday after the Packers wrapped up their first offseason minicamp. ?I?m happy with what I?m making. I love my job. It?s not a big deal to me.?

Favre Now Might Play Beyond 2006

Oct 22, 2014 5:56 AM

Despite comments earlier in the offseason that there was "no doubt" the upcoming season would be his last, Brett Favre said Saturday that he wasn't so sure. "I know I said that," Favre said Saturday, in his first public comments since telling the Green Bay Packers he would return for another year. "But I hope you guys will respect me. I'm going to play this year, give it my best and not talk about it. And I'm sure that it will come up from somewhere else at some point, but it's been a distraction not only for me but for I think the guys I played with in the past, and I'm not going to talk about it this year." In a half-hour session with reporters, Favre reiterated several times that he never considered asking to be traded to another team in the offseason. "I know there was a lot of talk about being traded or wanting to play for another team," Favre said. "That never, I've told you guys that over and over again that I didn't want to play for another team, and that's the truth. And never once did I mention (a) trade. This is where I wanted to be the whole time."

Packers Were Prepared To Sit Disgruntled Walker In 2006

Oct 7, 2014 4:17 PM

The Green Bay Packers were prepared to let wide receiver Javon Walker sit in 2006 if they couldn't find a trade that they were happy with. He was dealt to Denver on draft day. ?In the long run, we could have done that to make a statement,? Green Bay Packers GM Ted Thompson said. ?But I didn?t think it was worth cutting off my nose to spite my face, and I think we did get fair value. I think these young guys have a chance to come in here and play. ?According to my conversations with (Walker) and everyone else, he probably would have sat the year on injured reserve and been somewhere else next year.?
