The Detroit Lions have dealt Shaun Rogers to the Bengals in exchange for a third and fifth round draft picks. The Bengals also signed linebacker Dhani Jones to a three-year deal.

Chicago, Detroit and New Orleans are the teams most heavily interested in San Diego running back Michael Turner, according to the Union-Tribune. Turner could be a free agent until after the draft because of the large crop of running backs who will be available. Turner is an unrestricted free agent.

The Detroit Lions have signed veteran safety Dwight Smith to a two-year contract, according to ESPN.com. Smith, who was released by the Vikings last week, will make $5 million over the life of the deal.

Shaun Rogers is getting closer to being dealt by Detroit, and the Broncos appear to be a leading candidate, according to the Detroit News. If the Lions don't deal him by March 1st, they will have to pay Rogers a $1 million roster bonus. "There has been a lot of interest in Shaun," Matt Millen said. "Like we said from the start, we'll listen to everybody who wants to talk." "Shaun's a good player, and you don't give good players away. You try to keep your good players. If somebody wants to talk seriously, great. I'll talk to them."

Veteran cornerback Fernando Bryant was released by the Lions on Monday, according to an Associated Press report. Bryant signed with Detroit as an unrestricted free agent in 2004 after five seasons with Jacksonville, who took him in the first round of the 1999 draft.

Mike Martz wanted to talk about his new job with the 49ers at the combine in Indianapolis on Thursday but couldn't resist a few comments about his tenure with the Lions, according to MLive.com. "Oh yeah, they fired me. They absolutely fired me," Martz said for the first time since he and the team cut ties. "When they fired me, then it became mutual -- I agreed that I should probably go. That's how it became mutual," Martz added.
