Williams lost 30 pounds this offseason and was with the team bright and early when workouts began recently. "That conversation with Fisher, only a fool wouldn't take it as such," Williams said of Coach Jeff Fisher's request that he get in shape. "It was pretty much, 'You make a commitment to be in shape when you come back or ... move forward.'" "His weight's coming down. We're working on the speed. He's running well and catching well, so it's going to be very competitive there," Fisher said. "I'm pleased with where he is."

Lions' quarterback Drew Stanton doesn't understand why former offensive coordinator Mike Martz tried to work on altering his mechanics, according to The Detroit Free Press. "He changed everything, and I didn't really understand why, and I never really got explanations on how to work on it," Stanton said. "It was one of those things: 'Well, you're just doing this wrong." "I was on my own, basically, with our strength coach just throwing with him, trying to work on mechanics but not knowing if I was doing it correctly," Stanton said.

Lions' receiver Roy Williams admitted after practice on Wednesday that he believed the team was going to trade him this offseason, according to The Detroit Free Press. The Lions signed running back Artose Pinner to a one-year deal Thursday, reacquiring the free agent they drafted in 2003, according to an Associated Press report. Pinner rejoins the Lions entering his sixth NFL season. Pinner was picked by Detroit in the fourth round and played for the Lions through the 2005 season.
