The Piano Player Gets Another Start

Jul 14, 2014 11:59 AM

Joey Harrington is getting at least one more chance with the Detroit Lions. He will start at quarterback over Jeff Garcia this week against the New Orleans Saints, interim coach Dick Jauron said Wednesday. "We are just trying to see if we can jump-start and get a win somehow," Jauron said. Harrington, the third pick in the 2002 draft, began the season as the starter, then lost his job when Garcia recovered from injuries in late October. After two games as a backup, Harrington was a starter again until Jauron replaced fired coach Steve Mariucci and went with Garcia for the previous three games. Both quarterbacks have struggled for the Lions, who have lost seven of eight since sharing the division lead with a 3-3 record.

Rogers Inactive Against Vikes

Receiver Charles Rogers and running back Kevin Jones were inactive against the Vikings. While Jones was out with a thigh injury, Rogers was healthy enough to play, but interim coach Dick Jauron chose to have him inactive. The move was the latest setback for Rogers. The second pick overall in 2003 was suspended for four games earlier this year for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He was eligible to return in the previous matchup against Minnesota on Nov. 6, but former coach Steve Mariucci left him home after a lackluster week of practice.
