Nathaniel Hackett Has 'Great Talk' With Melvin Gordon

Oct 20, 2022 8:32 AM

Melvin Gordon III met with Nathaniel Hackett to discuss the running back's usage in the second half of the Denver Broncos' loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night.

A frustrated Gordon was caught on camera during the broadcast, including during one emotional exchange with Jerry Jeudy.

Gordon started the game, but had just three carries with his final tote coming with more than eight minutes left in the second quarter.

Hackett said immediately after the game that the running back was not injured.

"It happened; I'm glad we hashed it out," Gordon said before Wednesday's practice.

Asked whether he got an explanation from Hackett, Gordon said "Yeah, kind of, sort of, yeah."

For his part, Hackett said Wednesday that Gordon would start Sunday against the New York Jets, as Gordon has in the two games since Javonte Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury on Oct. 2.

"Of course we [talked]," Hackett said. "It was a great talk, love Melvin, so much respect for him as a pro for [what] he's done in this league."

Melvin Gordon: No One Told Me Why I Was Benched

Oct 18, 2022 9:15 AM

Melvin Gordon had three carries in the first quarter for the Denver Broncos on Monday night and then was taken out of the game for undisclosed reasons.

The running back told NFL Network after the game that no one on the Broncos' coaching staff explained to him why he was benched.

"To tell you exactly what happened? I can't tell you. Because I don't know," Gordon said. "Na, no one mentioned anything to me."

Gordon felt he could have helped the Broncos, who lost to the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime.

"Just waiting for my number to get called so I can go out there and help my teammates. It was a close game, I felt like I could've made a difference, but apparently not," he said.

Russell Wilson On Late INTs Against Colts: 'Let The Team Down'

Oct 7, 2022 9:01 AM

Russell Wilson shouldered much of the blame for the Denver Broncos' 12-9 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night.

"It's very simple -- at the end of the day I've got to be better, I've got to play better," Wilson said. "The defense played their butts off tonight, we had some key good drives. ... At the end of the day throwing two interceptions can't happen. Can't happen. I let the team down tonight."

Wilson threw his second interception with just over two minutes to play in regulation when the Broncos had a chance to put the game away.

He also missed an open KJ Hamler on the last play of the game.
