Broncos Release Selvin Young
The Broncos released running back Selvin Young on Thursday.
They used the 12th overall pick in last weekend's draft to take Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno, and will have a half-dozen tailbacks competing for playing time.
The Broncos also have holdovers Peyton Hillis and Ryan Torian and free agents J.J. Arrington, Correll Buckhalter and LaMont Jordan.
Could Eagles Deal For Denver's Scheffler?
The Eagles could use a third-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft to pry tight end Tony Scheffler away from the Broncos.
Philadelphia told Denver that they would be interested in Scheffler depending on what they do in this weekend's draft, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
In the fifth round, the Eagles selected tight end Cornelius Ingram out of Florida.
Tampa Bay Trades Up To Take Freeman
The Buccaneers, who entered the day with the 19th pick, traded up to the 17th to grab Kansas St. quarterback Josh Freeman.
Tampa Bay got the 17th pick from Cleveland, who took the 19th pick in return.
The Browns then sent the 19th pick to the Eagles for the 21st pick and a sixth-round selection.
Denver Talking Trade To Move Up For Sanchez
The Broncos have engaged in discussions regarding a draft trade for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, according to an NFL source.
In possession of the No. 12 and No. 18 overall picks in the NFL draft, which begins Saturday, the Broncos understand they may have to move up to snag Sanchez, who is drawing interest from several teams. One possible trade partner is the Jacksonville Jaguars, who want to drop down from No. 8 overall.
Two Teams Interested In Bills' Losman
The Broncos and Panthers have reportedly shown interest in Bills free agent quarterback J.P. Losman, according to a league source.
Denver's interest in Losman appeared to minimize when they signed Chris Simms, but something could arise prior to this weekend's draft.
Sanchez's Workout With Broncos Went 'Great'
USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, who has seen his draft stock rise as of late, says that his workout with the Broncos went "great."
Sanchez wrote on his Twitter page: "Had a great workout in OC with QB coach Bob Johnson."
Broncos Will Work Out Sanchez On Tuesday
The Broncos are planning to work out USC quarterback Mark Sanchez on Tuesday, according to NFL.com.
The Denver Post reported that Sanchez will meet with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Brian Xanders.
Denver has the No. 12 and No. 18 picks in next weekend's NFL Draft.
Bowlen: Broncos Are Happy For Cutler
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is pleased with the trade that sent Jay Cutler to the Bears, and hopes that his former quarterback enjoys success in Chicago.
"We're happy with where we're at," Bowlen told The Associated Press. "I'm happy for Jay. I think he's going to a good organization."
Denver traded Cutler to Chicago for Kyle Orton and a number of draft picks.
"He didn't want to be in Denver. He made that clear," Bowlen said. "He's going on with his career, and we're going on with our team."
Rod Smith Says He Belongs In Canton
Longtime Broncos receiver Rod Smith, who will be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday night, believes he deserves a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
"The numbers speak for themselves," Smith said.
He tallied 849 career receptions, 71 total touchdowns and 11,389 receiving yards in his career.
Cutler Still Eligible For $100K Bonus From Bears
Jay Cutler is still eligible for his $100,000 workout bonus, which he reportedly forfeited with the Broncos when he failed to show up for voluntary workouts last month.
Chicago acquired Cutler before the start of their voluntary offseason workout program.
