Browns Could Use Cribbs As Running Back
The Browns could use Josh Cribbs at running back this Sunday.
Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he "wouldn't rule out seeing" Joshua Cribbs in the backfield as a running back.
Cribbs was a scrambling quarterback at Kent State and is the school's third all-time leading rusher with 3,670 yards and a school-record 38 touchdowns.
Browns D-Coordinator Upset Over Protest
Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is upset over a planned protest by the team's fans.
Two longtime season-ticket holders are planning a protest before Cleveland's Monday night game on Nov. 16, urging fans to stay away from their seats for the opening kickoff.
"That [ticks] me off. This is Cleveland. They're going to show up and back this damn team," Ryan said. "This is a town that's tough and that loves football. Nobody's happy. I hate me, too. So they hate me. Great. Doesn't mean you turn your back.
"I've got a kid who flunked a class one time and it [ticked] me off. I don't turn my back on him. I go get a tutor and help him."
Lewis Wishes He Had Ownership In Browns
Browns running back Jamal Lewis wants the entire organization to be held accountable for the team's struggles.
"I wish I had ownership in this team," Lewis told The News-Herald. "I wish [owner] Randy Lerner would entertain the thought. I'd do a whole lot organizationally. It's a bad time, right? Business is struggling, and this is a business."
Lewis was then asked what his first change would be if he were Cleveland's owner.
"I'm not going to give you that," Lewis said. "I wish I could. It's all about accountability. That's what I would instill ? accountability among everybody. That's how I run my businesses, and they're pretty good businesses.
"Everybody is accountable for something. I don't just put it on my employees. I put it on management. I put it on my executives I'm paying the big bucks to. I put it on my executives and management and then everything trickles down to the employees.
"I'm not saying that's lacking here, but at the same time, if you were to buy a business that isn't doing well, the first thing you need to look at is who is accountable for areas not doing well and handle it from there."
Dawg Pound Ready To Launch Protest
Some die hard Browns fans are gearing up to protest the team's continued poor play.
Lifelong fan and season-ticket holder Mike Randall, aka "Dawg Pound Mike," is encouraging fans to stay away from their seats for the opening kickoff of the Browns' Nov. 16 home game against Baltimore.
"We're tired of losing," Randall told the Associated Press. "We're tired of the booing, of seeing fans leave in the fourth quarter. There are fans who have had tickets for 30 years who are turning their seats in because they can't take it anymore. So many fans are fed up."
Mangini: QB Decision Has Nothing To Do With Quinn's Bonus
Browns coach Eric Mangini claims that his decision on the team's starting quarterback has nothing to do with Brady Quinn's possible bonus.
Mangini says that he's sticking with Derek Anderson despite his terrible play in recent weeks.
If Quinn takes 70 percent of Cleveland's offensive snaps this season, he'll trigger a $10.9 million clause in his contract. He could still reach the plateau if the Browns started him this weekend.
"That has nothing to do with it. Nothing. Zero," Mangini told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Browns Will Continue To Start Anderson
The Browns will continue to start Derek Anderson at quarterback.
Cleveland coach Eric Mangini said Monday that he has no plans to bench Anderson for Brady Quinn or anyone else.
Anderson is just 23-for-70 in the team's last three games.
NFL Says Browns Didn't Violate Rules
The NFL says the Browns did not violate any league policies when rookie running back James Davis was injured during a recent practice.
The league reviewed video of the practice session and interviewed Browns players and staff.
James was reportedly struck by an unidentified linebacker during a post-practice "opportunity period."
He wasn't wearing any shoulder pads and was placed on the injured reserve on Oct. 3.
Wright Back At Practice Hours After Flipping Car
Eric Wright, cornerback of the Browns, was back at practice hours after flipping his car on a wet highway entrance ramp. He may even play Sunday against Green Bay.
Wright rolled his car early Friday when his vehicle slid on wet pavement. He was examined and released at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The Browns sent him for more tests and Wright was back at the team's training facility in Berea, Ohio, in time for practice.
Police said Wright's accident happened at 2:10 a.m. Mangini did not take issue with Wright being out at that time.
"I wouldn't necessarily be out at 2:10 in the morning, but we don't have curfew year-round," Mangini said. "I'd rather everybody be home, but guys do go out. You don't want to see anybody in a bad accident or any situation like that. I much prefer that guys were in, but it's a personal decision."
Time On Sideline May Cost Quinn Millions
Browns quarterback Brady Quinn could lose millions if he doesn't play against the Packers this weekend.
According to Quinn's contract, he needs to play 70 percent of Cleveland's offensive snaps to earn two bonuses worth a combined $10.95 million in 2009.
Quinn played ten quarters this season before being benched in favor of Derek Anderson.
Depending on the amount of snaps the Browns take this weekend, Quinn could fall under the 70 percent threshold by sitting on the sidelines.
Agent: Cribbs Wants To Finish Career With Browns
According to his agent, Joshua Cribbs wants to finish his career with the Browns.
"I'm not surprised at all," agent J.R. Rickert told the Cleveland Plain Dealer when asked if he was surprised that Cribbs wasn't traded. "I had heard that several teams had reached out to the Browns and were told no.
"That's great news for Joshua. He wants to remain a member of the Browns' organization for the rest of his career. However, he also wants the proper consideration from the organization for the [contract] extension that he has rightfully earned."
