Mangini Gives Anderson Starting Job

Oct 31, 2014 9:16 PM

Derek Anderson will replace Brady Quinn as the starting quarterback Sunday against the Bengals, coach Eric Mangini announced Wednesday. Mangini said "giving Derek the opportunity is something I think will help us offensively.'' He said Anderson's performance on third down Sunday in Baltimore -- including 3-of-4 on a field goal drive -- helped him clinch the job.

Quinn Visibly Upset Over Benching

Oct 10, 2014 9:25 AM

Browns quarterback Brady Quinn wasn't happy that he was benched in favor of Derek Anderson on Sunday. Cleveland coach Eric Mangini pulled Quinn at halftime, putting Anderson in at quarterback. "I knew I didn't have a good first half, and I was hoping to make some plays in the second half. It's the coach's decision," Quinn told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Anderson was surprised by the move as well. He moved the ball better than Quinn, but threw three interceptions. "I'm going to look at it and I'll make a decision early next week," Mangini said of who will start in Week 4.

Roethlisberger: Steelers Beat Themselves

Oct 31, 2014 2:58 PM

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn't give the Bengals much credit for their comeback on Sunday. Cincinnati scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to stun the defending champions 23-20 at Paul Brown Stadium. "We feel like we beat ourselves," Roethlisberger said after the game. Roethlisberger had been 11-0 in his native state of Ohio. Pittsburgh receiver Hines Ward blamed the team's inability to turn drives into touchdowns. They settled for two short field goals in the first half. "If we score touchdowns in the first half, it's not even a game," Ward said. "It's 24-0 or 24-3. It's not very good. You've got to put up seven points instead of 3s. That's how you finish a team off."

Browns Could Be Without Lewis On Sunday

Nov 4, 2014 6:41 AM

The Browns could be without running back Jamal Lewis on Sunday against the Ravens. Lewis missed his second straight day of practice on Thursday with a hamstring injury. "We're going to have to see with Jamal. He approaches everything the same way, so he's working at it and we'll just have to see where we go through the week," coach Eric Mangini told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Mangini Plans To Stick With Quinn

Oct 9, 2014 10:52 AM

Browns coach Eric Mangini told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he plans to stick with Brady Quinn at quarterback. "Yes, that's exactly right," Mangini said Monday, adding that there are a number of things that need to be fixed regarding the team's offense. "The quarterback gets the lion's share of the credit and the lion's share of the blame," said Mangini. "But as you watch any play, it comes down to everybody doing what they're supposed to be doing in that spot. It's really reliant on everybody doing what they're supposed to do."

Edwards Blames Quinn's INT On Miscommunication

Nov 2, 2014 9:05 AM

If the Browns are going to have success this season, Brady Quinn and Braylon Edwards are going to have to get on the same page. Edwards had just one catch for 12 yards in the team's season-opening loss to the Vikings. Quinn also threw an interception on a pass intended for Edwards. After the game, the receiver blamed a lack of communication for the turnover. "It's due to the fact I made a mistake," Edwards told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "That's all it is. It's not due to a quarterback controversy, it's due to a mistake I made. It was a miscommunication. I was thinking one thing, he was thinking another. It ended up in a not-so-good play, but it was one of those things where we'll get that fixed after practice and after meetings." Browns coach Eric Mangini agreed that the pair weren't in sync. "We could've made some better throws at times, and we could've run some sharper routes at times," Mangini said. "I don't think it was a function of being on a different page. I think it was a function of being able to execute those plays more effectively."

Brady Quinn beat out Derek Anderson to become the starting quarterback of the Browns, sources told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Browns coach Eric Mangini met with the pair of quarterbacks on Tuesday night to announce his decision. Mangini was doing his best to keep the decision away from the public. "He hasn't said anything to us yet," Quinn said Wednesday in an attempt to keep silent. "He talked to us about it, but hasn't told us anything about a final decision for us."

Apr 7, 2014 3:55 PM

Browns coach Eric Mangini has told Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson who will start at quarterback. However, no one else knows who Mangini has selected. He met with the players on Tuesday night and doesn't believe holding back the information will be a problem for either. "I don't think anybody is in an awkward spot of trying to maintain a competitive advantage," Mangini said. "We all do that, and that's all of our goals, trying to do everything we need to do to win the game on Sunday." The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Quinn will be the Week 1 starter.
