Source: Browns Lose Rogers For Season
The Browns have lost tackle Shaun Rogers for the remainder of the season because of a leg injury.
A league source told the Cleveland Plain Dealer of the severity.
Rogers left Sunday's loss to Cincinnati with the injury, which has been undefined.
Mangini Regrets Suggesting Lions Faked Injuries
Browns coach Eric Mangini regrets hinting that he felt the Lions faked injuries during Sunday's game.
Detroit defeated Cleveland 38-37 on a last-second touchdown pass that was set up by a pass interference call, which Mangini also questioned.
"At the end of the day we're accountable for losing the game and for not making enough plays," Mangini said. "That's me, that's the coaches, that's the players. That's what it was. I think I was frustrated with the situation and probably expressed that more than I probably should have, but at the end of the day we're responsible for it.
"We had plenty of opportunities to win the game and we didn't. That wasn't good enough," he said.
Schwartz Blasts Mangini For Criticisms
Lions coach Jim Schwartz wasn't happy with some of the accusations Eric Mangini threw his way.
After Detroit defeated Cleveland 38-37 on Sunday, the Browns coach hinted that the Lions were faking injuries to slow down his no-huddle offense.
"That couldn't be further from the truth," Schwartz said in response. "There was no need to do that because the officials were doing a really good job of standing over the ball for us and them. We used a lot of no-huddle, also, and I thought the crew did a really good job of making sure that substitutes were allowed to come in on either side if the offense substituted. So, that game was under control that way. There was no need to do any of that stuff and that couldn't be further from the truth."
In addition, Mangini was also critical of the pass-interference call at the end of regulation that allowed the Lions to win the game.
"Well, they don't know what they're talking about," Schwartz said. "You can quote me on that. When the quarterback is out of the pocket, there can still be pass interference. There can't be illegal contact, but there can be pass interference. When the ball is in the air, you can't make contact with the receivers. It's clear. There were more flags thrown than there were officials."
Mangini Hints Lions Faked Injuries
Browns coach Eric Mangini hinted on Monday that he believes the Lions were faking injuries during Sunday's game.
Cleveland was running a no-huddle offense, which was slowed considerably by Detroit's injuries.
"I'm just saying there were a lot of them," Mangini said.
Holmgren Would Like To Talk With Browns
Mike Holmgren told a Seattle radio station that he'd love to talk to the Browns about a role with the franchise.
He said he hasn't spoken with Cleveland owner Randy Lerner yet, but he hopes rumors of their interest are true.
"I hope it's true -- someday that we get a chance to talk, yea, I have tremendous respect for Mr. Lerner," Holmgren said on his regular Friday appearance on The NFL Show on 950 AM in Seattle.
"Their team is struggling just a little bit and I absolutely would love to talk to him about working there. But until that happens, you'll be the first to know."
Holmgren added that he's attracted to rebuilding projects.
Cribbs: Last-Second Hit Wasn't A Cheap Shot
Cleveland wide receiver Josh Cribbs says that a cheap shot didn't lay him out in the final seconds of Baltimore's win on Monday night.
Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards delivered the hit that forced Cribbs to make a trip to the hospital on Monday.
Cribbs spoke with Edwards and a few other Ravens defenders on Tuesday and hold no grudges.
Quinn Fined $10K For Hit On Suggs
Browns quarterback Brady Quinn has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for his chop-block hit on Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs.
Quinn said he received a letter from the league on Wednesday.
The quarterback didn't disclose the fine, but a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter of the amount.
Browns Would Give LeBron A Shot
The Cleveland Browns would give LeBron James a shot if he's truly interested in seeing if he can become an effective NFL player.
"I think he should come on down," Eric Mangini said.
"If I put all my time and commitment into it, if I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good," he said Tuesday night, "no matter what team I was on."
Mangini agreed, calling James "a freak athletically" and said the 6-foot-8, 260-pounder could be dangerous at tight end, wide receiver or even outside linebacker.
Quarterback Brady Quinn also heard about James' football fetish. He would love to have a target to throw to like James in the red zone.
"That'd be great," Quinn said. "Tell him to suit up and let us know, we'll get him working. Obviously he's an incredibly talented athlete. If he wants to try to play a little bit now, we'd be more than willing to pick him up."
LeBron Thinks He Could Be 'Really Good' In NFL
LeBron James believes he could be an effective NFL player.
"If I put all my time and commitment into it, if I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good," said James. "No matter what team I was on."
James was an All-Ohio wide receiver at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School before quitting football after his junior year to focus on basketball. But he still follows the game closely and believes he could have been a hybrid tight end/receiver in the mold of San Diego's Antonio Gates or Atlanta's Tony Gonzalez.
"They're not always lined up next to the tackle," James said. "Sometimes they go against strong safeties and linebackers. It's tough to match up with those guys because they're so athletic."
He has no serious plans of returning to football, but said playing the two sports takes entirely different types of stamina.
"I'd be in football shape during football season, then I'd go to basketball and feel like I was out of shape," he said. "It's totally different. And another thing you have to get used to is getting hit again."
Cribbs' Injury Has Mangini Rethinking Play
Browns head coach Eric Mangini wishes he had handled the final play of Monday's game against the Ravens differently.
On the last-second play, wide receiver Josh Cribbs suffered an injury that led to him bring carted off the field.
Mangini called it a "competitive situation" and said Cribbs improvised on the pass play by lateraling the ball before being hit by Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards.
Cribbs was sent home early Tuesday morning after being evaluated for several hours by doctors.
