Chad Johnson Skips Start Of Bengals' Offseason Workouts
Chad Johnson skipped the start of the Bengals? offseason workouts Monday, the latest move to show he?s unhappy with how he?s perceived in Cincinnati, according to an Associated Press report.
Johnson said in interviews last week that he is skipping the voluntary workouts to reinforce his message that he?d like to play somewhere else. The Bengals have said repeatedly that they have no intention of trading him.
Johnson Skips Workouts, Still Wants Trade
Chad Johnson skipped the start of Bengals' practices on Monday and maintains that he would like a trade, according to the Associated Press.
He said in several interviews last week that he would skip the opening workouts to reinforce his point.
"Im not going to get too involved in it," QB Carson Palmer said. "I know the guys that are here are working their butts off and working for a spot."
"I'm not worried. We've got a good group of guys -- some mature guys, some veteran guys -- that wont let any off-the-field distractions get in the way of what needs to be done, all of the work thats going on right now," he added.
Utecht Signs 3-Year Deal With Bengals
The deadline for the Colts to match the offer Ben Utecht received from the Bengals came and went on Friday night, according to the Indianapolis Star.
The tight end signed a 3-year offer sheet worth $9 million with Cincinnati on March 14.
"He is really excited to join the team and make contributions to help make the Bengals a Super Bowl contender," Chris Murray said.
Is Houshmandzadeh Unhappy As Well?
Chad Johnson isn't the only wide receiver that is a little upset in Cincinnati, according to The NFL Network.
Johnson claims that he won't attend the team's voluntary conditioning program that begins Monday, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh appears adamant about skipping the program as well.
In the final year of his contract, T.J. reportedly feels that he is underpaid and wants a new deal before the season.
Bengals' Andrews Signs One-Year Tender
Stacy Andrews has signed a one-year franchise tender with the Bengals and will continue to discuss a long-term deal with the team, according ESPN.
"We're happy Stacy is signed in advance of our offseason work," head coach Marvin Lewis said. "This does not preclude our continuing to talk to Stacy and his representatives about reaching a longer-term agreement."
The two parties have until July to work out a multi-year deal.
Johnson Undecided About Future With Bengals
Chad Johnson is still uncertain about his future with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to an interview conducted on ESPN.
"I want to continue my career wherever I have the opportunity to win a playoff game and get to the Super Bowl. That's where I want to be," Johnson said.
When asked if that accurately described his situation in Cincinnati, Johnson said, "I'm not sure. I have no idea."
Dolphins, WR Perry Agree To Terms On One-Year Deal
The Dolphins and wide receiver Tab Perry agreed to terms on a one-year contract, according to a report on the Bengals web site Sunday.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Peter Schaffer, the agent for Perry, hinted that the contract was in the range of $927,000 which is the number the Bengals opted not to sign Perry as a restricted free agent.
Bengals Offer TE Utecht Contract
The Bengals have signed tight end Ben Utecht to an offer sheet, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The Colts still have time to match the offer for the restricted free-agent.
Terms of the offer sheet were not disclosed, but Indianapolis will have roughly one week to decide whether or not to match the contract.
Bengals Sign LB Blackstock
A few days after losing Landon Johnson, the Bengals signed former Arizona linebacker Darryl Blackstock to a one-year deal on Monday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
He will reportedly make the one year minimum of $520,000.
Bengals Mum On '05 Chad Incident
Defensive lineman Shaun Smith, who was with the Bengals at the time, claims that Chad Johnson punched Head Coach Marvin Lewis in the face during halftime of their wild-card loss to the Steelers in 2005, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
"He swung on Marvin. (Johnson) shattered the training room glass. He swung on Marvin (and) hit Marvin in the eye. Then he tried to swing on wide receivers Coach Hue Jackson, who's now in Baltimore," Smith said.
The team has refused to comment on the incident.
