Marvin Lewis Refutes Report Of Possible Retirement

Dec 27, 2016 8:29 PM

Marvin Lewis disputed a report that he will retire at the end of this season.

The Cincinnati Bengals will finish with a losing record for the first time since 2010.

Chris Cooley said Sunday on ESPN 980's "Cooley & Kevin" show that Lewis would leave the Bengals at the end of the season, citing "somebody I know in Cincinnati."

"The idea is that [Lewis] has been slowly packing up the office, though, slowly putting the pieces away so next Sunday, he can get home, have a little meeting and say, 'See ya, I'm going to spend some time in Arizona and play some golf,'" Cooley said.

Despite receiving just a one-year extension in the offseason and enduring an unexpectedly poor start to the season, Lewis said in early December that he didn't fear for his job because he speaks to 81-year-old owner Mike Brown "every day."

Lewis is the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL.

A.J. Green To Play In Week 16

Dec 22, 2016 10:54 PM

A.J. Green plans to play in Week 16 for the Cincinnati Bengals against the Houston Texans.

Green has been out since suffering a Grade 2 hamstring tear two snaps into the Bengals' Week 11 game against the Buffalo Bills.

"It's big. Like yesterday, I was very excited to get back out there [at practice]," Green said Thursday. "Not playing for that long, no matter what our season is, I'm just happy to get back out there with my teammates."

The Bengals have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

"I'm not the type of guy to try to just shut it down, just to bail on my team because we're not having the season we wanted to have," he said. "That's like a cowardly move to me. If I'm healthy, I'm going to play. And I feel like I'm healthy."

Only Steelers Rank In Top-10 In Offense, Defense DVOA (Infographic)

Dec 21, 2016 10:38 AM

The NFL has very teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA: the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are 9-5 after winning five straight games and must beat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 to ensure their place in the playoffs. Pittsburgh ranks third in total DVOA and first in Weighted DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs are the closest team to joining the Steelers in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 12th.

The Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots rank first and second overall in DVOA as they rank second and third, respectively in Offensive DVOA but 20th and 19th in Defensive DVOA. The Atlanta Falcons rank first in Offensive DVOA, 27th in Defensive and fourth overall. The Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders have similar splits as the Cowboys and Patriots, while the Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants are the inverse of those teams with top-5 defenses and offenses below the NFL mean.

Ben Roethlisberger: Some Bengals Can't Stand Vontaze Burfict's Antics

Dec 21, 2016 8:12 AM

In the wake of Sunday's game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals, Ben Roethlisberger says some members of the Bengals can't stand Vontaze Burfict's extra antics on the field.

Burfict was penalized for throwing Roethlisberger to the ground after a pass and then headbutted Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh's comeback win.

"I know some of their players, they just can't stand it, and I know if it was on our team, we'd have to have a talk," Roethlisberger said. "I think they roll their eyes with some of the antics, truthfully."

Steelers Warn Jeremy Hill Not To Disrespect Terrible Towel

Dec 19, 2016 8:16 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers warned Jeremy Hill against disrespecting the Terrible Towel after Sunday's game, which featured Hill pretending to rip one after a four-yard touchdown.

Hill's score gave the Cincinnati Bengals a 17-3 lead with 9:02 left in the second quarter, but the Steelers went on a 21-3 run to claim the victory.

"Anybody that's grabbed it has had something unfortunate happen," Ramon Foster said. "I hate to say the towel is cursed when you disrespect it, but you can't do that. That's too early in the game to be doing that type of stuff. He's a pro. I'm sure his coaches would talk to him."

Hill rushed for 44 yards on his first 14 carries but netted minus-1 yards on the six attempts after he found the towel on the ground and taunted Steelers fans with it.
