McDonald's Recreates Jordan/Bird Commercial With Kaepernick/Flacco

Oct 8, 2014 3:24 AM

McDonald's is recreating its legendary Michael Jordan/Larry Bird commercial from the early 1990s by having Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco compete in an improbable shoot-off for its Might Wings chicken.

"It's a fresh take on an idea our customers have loved, but in a sport they haven't seen us do it with," said Marlena Peleo-Lazar, chief creative officer at McDonald's USA.

"What made a good story the first time around was the magic between Jordan and Bird — the chemistry felt real," managing director of consulting firm Landor Associates Allen Adamson says. "This has the foundation to be a big idea, but it all depends on getting the details right."

The spot debuts on Monday night.

Manning Has Career Night As Broncos Beat Ravens (+9.6 TC, -5 TRC)

Oct 16, 2014 11:46 PM

The Denver Broncos defeated the Baltimore Ravens by a final score of 49-27 as Peyton Manning threw for seven touchdowns and 462 yards.

The Broncos had a +9.6 advantage in The Trench Counter, nearly doubling up the Ravens in terms of yards per pass (10.6 to 5.4). Denver and Baltimore each gained 2.8 yards per carry, 24 first downs and two turnovers. The Ravens had a +5 edge in Total Rushes/Completions.

Manning struggled in the first half to connect to anyone other than Julius Thomas and Wes Welker. Julius Thomas finished with two touchdowns and 110 yards, while Demaryius Thomas had an excellent second half with two touchdowns and 161 yards.

Joe Flacco lost Jacoby Jones in the first half and didn't look particularly comfortable targeting Dallas Clark and Brandon Stokley more than 10 times apiece. Flacco finished the game 34-for-62 for 362 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Ray Rice carried just 12 times for 36 yards and a goalline touchdown off Welker's fumble on a punt.

Ravens' Staff Didn't Tell John Harbaugh To Challenge Welker Drop

Oct 1, 2014 7:02 AM

The Baltimore Ravens did not challenge a key drop early in the third quarter by Wes Welker that was ruled on the field as a completed pass. If the play was overturned, the Denver Broncos would have been forced to punt. The Broncos quickly snapped the ball on the next play, which was a 34-yard catch and run from Peyton Manning to Demaryius Thomas.

The Broncos scored a touchdown two plays later to take a 21-17 lead that triggered an onslaught from Manning.

"This is the first I've heard of it," John Harbaugh said after the game. "That's something you have to see. It would be nice if NBC would show it, but we didn't have a chance to look at it."

The ball was snapped approximately five seconds after the replay ended.
