The NFL and Colin Kaepernick had agreed that the workout would remain confidential.

"We as the NFL are not going public with this," a Kaepernick team member recalls being told on the call. "But we cannot control the 32 teams."

NFL writers began receiving a text message from the league almost immediately after the call to be on the lookout for an important email, which led many to believe it would pertain to Antonio Brown. 

"They didn't give the 32 NFL teams a heads-up, but they gave the media one?" a Kaepernick source says. "Once they betrayed us on the confidentiality agreement, we knew what this was."

The NFL's football operations department had alerted Roger Goodell in October that two teams were legitimately interested in Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick's representatives had released a statement reiterating his readiness to return to the NFL.

In the weeks following the statement, the NFL's football operations team discussed with Goodell the feasibility of reaching out to Kaepernick. Goodell ultimately approved it. "Inside and outside," an NFL source says, "the thought was, 'Let's provide him the opportunity.'"

The NFL believed holding individual workouts for the two teams interested in Kaepernick would have resulted in media attention that might have made those teams reluctant to proceed. The NFL instead decided to hold an unprecedented league-hosted workout.

"It was the commissioner's idea, no doubt about it," a league source says. "This was a way to deal with it without the torrent of media information, the level of distraction. Bringing him in to a single team would have them bear the brunt of all of that media attention."

Kaepernick's camp believed the misery teams were the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions, but it didn't find the information credible. The Falcons had never expressed interest in Kaepernick while the Lions were starting Jeff Driskel in place of Matthew Stafford.

Fox has sold out all 77 of their available commercials for the Super Bowl, which marks the earliest a Super Bowl has been sold out in nine years.

The 30-second spots are going for as much as $5.6 million.

The market accelerated after Fox announced ads were 78 percent sold out 11 days ago.

Antonio Brown has apologized to the New England Patriots and Robert Kraft.

“All I wanted to be was an asset to the organization; sorry for the bad media and the drama!” wrote Brown on Instagram.

Brown met with NFL officials last week to discuss sexual assault allegations against him.

The Patriots cut Brown shortly before Week 3.

The NFL asked Colin Kaepernick to sign a waiver that was very different from the one teams typically require players to sign for a standard workout.

“The waiver that Kaepernick was asked to sign on Saturday is essentially the same one he’d have to sign to work out for a team during the season,” said the NFL in the statement.

A typical waiver is focused on injuries with no acknowledgement that "Player acknowledges that he has been made no promise of employment, and understands that his participation in the Workout does not constitute employment” and no general waiver of “any and all claims . . . caused by, arising out of, occurring during, or related directly or indirectly to the Workout, Player’s presence at the Facility, and any medical treatment or services rendered in connection with or necessitated by Player’s participation in the Workout.”

Kaepernick and the NFL have a history of litigation, which makes him signing such a restrictive waiver arguably malpractice for his attorney.

Colin Kaepernick completed a 40-minute workout in front of representatives of eight NFL teams.

Kaepernick wants the NFL to "stop running" from him.

"I've been ready for three years,'' Kaepernick said. "I've been denied for three years. We all know why I came out here: showed it today in front of everybody. We have nothing to hide. So we're waiting for the 32 owners, 32 teams, Roger Goodell, all of them stop running. Stop running from the truth. Stop running from the people.

"We're out here. We're ready to play. We're ready to go anywhere. My agent, Jeff Nalley, is ready to talk any team. I'll interview with any team at any time. I've been ready."

Kaepernick moved his workout from the Atlanta Falcons' facility to Charles R. Drew High School. There were approximately 25 teams scheduled to watch Kaepernick at the original site.

Kaepernick's camp switched venues following a disagreement between the two sides on the quarterback's liability waiver as well as media availability, among other factors.

In a statement, the NFL said it was "disappointed that Colin did not appear for his workout.''

Nalley seemed skeptical about Kaepernick getting a chance to sign on a team anytime soon when asked if he expected Kaepernick to receive a legitimate opportunity.

"I hope so, but I don't know,'' Nalley said. "I'll be honest, I'm a little bit pessimistic because I've talked to all 32 teams. I've reached out to them recently and none of them have had any interest. I'll tell you this: No team asked for this workout. The league office asked for this workout.

Antonio Brown met with the NFL for approximately eight hours on Thursday to address sexual assault allegations against him.

Brown has denied the allegations.

The NFL had three representatives at the interview, which was led by Lisa Friel.

Brown is not expected to play again in 2019 barring a significant turn of events.

Brown was released by the Oakland Raiders on the eve of the season and by the New England Patriots after Week 2.

The NFL and NFL Players Association have made significant progress toward a new collective bargaining agreement with the hope a deal can be finalized by early 2020. The deal will likely include a 17-game regular season and a shortened preseason.

“I think there’s some real intensity and opportunity over the next few weeks,” one person familiar with the state of the negotiations said, adding that the participants are “working hard” to complete a deal.

Owners have been willing to make concessions to add the extra game each season.

The existing 10-year collective bargaining agreement between the league and union runs through the 2020 season.

Owners would prefer to deal with the current leadership of the NFLPA.

The NFL has invited all 32 teams to a private workout with Colin Kaepernick this Saturday.

The reasons for this decision remain unclear, but Adam Schefter addressed the motivation from Roger Goodell.

“I think Roger Goodell, there’s a part of him, the Commissioner, that feels bad about the way that this has unfolded,” Schefter said on ESPN. “And I think that he believes that he must do his part to try to get a workout for Colin Kaepernick, to try to get interviews with Colin Kaepernick, to try to do his part to get Colin Kaepernick in front of teams.

“Now Roger Goodell cannot make teams sign a quarterback himself, and we’ve seen what has transpired in recent months and years where nobody has brought him in to visit [editor’s note: the Seahawks brought Kaepernick in for a visit], nobody has worked him out, and he essentially has been persona non grata with the NFL. This is a reversal of that with the league office. This is the league office stepping in to try to make sure that Colin Kaepernick . . . has a chance to show to teams what he can’t do, what he can do, what his level of interest is in returning, how much he’d like to be back in football. And, again, the NFL can’t make a team sign him I don’t think, but it can arrange something like this that really turns into Colin Kaepernick’s Pro Day.”

A source told Dan Patrick that Goodell felt pressured to do this, but declined to explain the basis for that pressure.

Jeff Bezos has interest in purchasing an NFL team.

Bezos has become close with several current owners and has strong support within the league to eventually purchase a franchise.

Bezos watched last year's Super Bowl from Roger Goodell's suite.

No NFL teams are currently on the market, but the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos could eventually come on the market.

Amazon is headquartered in the Seattle area, but Bezos is in the process of moving to Washington D.C. Bezos has become close to Dan Snyder.
