NFL Waiting On Better L.A. Stadium Offers

Dec 21, 2014 2:21 PM

The NFL wants better options and offers on a stadium site in Los Angeles before a team actually makes a decision on relocating.

The St. Louis Rams are the clear frontrunner to move to Los Angeles when the time comes, according to Jay Glazer.

NFL Won't Relocate To Los Angeles In 2015

Dec 21, 2014 10:47 AM

Roger Goodell told the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams that there will not be a team that moves to Los Angeles for next season, according to league sources.

Goodell also told the Chargers, Raiders and Rams -- each of whom can file a relocation application for the 2015 season starting Jan. 1 -- that any team that is considering relocating to Los Angeles should look to 2016 instead, according to sources.

Chris Conte Believes Playing In NFL Worth Risk Of Early Death

Dec 17, 2014 9:39 PM

Chris Conte, who has suffered two concussions this season, says playing in the NFL is worth the risk he takes to his long-term health by doing so.

Conte is a 25-year-old safety for the Chicago Bears.

"Ever since I was a little kid, it's what I've wanted to do," Conte told WBBM Newsradio in Chicago. "In college, I didn't even graduate school because my senior year, I honestly let school be a casualty to that because I knew I had one opportunity to make it to the NFL, and I put everything into that. And I felt school's something I could figure out later.

"As far as after football, who knows. My life will revolve around football to some point, but I'd rather have the experience of playing and, who knows, die 10, 15 years earlier than not be able to play in the NFL and live a long life. It's something I've wanted to do with my life and I wanted to accomplish. And I pretty much set my whole life up to accomplish that goal. So I don't really look toward my life after football because I'll figure things out when I get there and see how I am."

Conte has been unable to play in three games this season and couldn't finish seven of the 12 he's played in.

"As long as I outlive my parents, then we'll be all right," Conte said.

NFL Appears Unlikely To Relocate To L.A. In 2015

Dec 17, 2014 7:38 AM

Roger Goodell is expected to spend more time working on the NFL's issues with getting a team or teams to Los Angeles now that the new personal conduct policy is in place.

It currently sounds unlikely that a team will arrive in Los Angeles in time to play in 2015.

“There’s a schism about what to do in Los Angeles,’’ said one source with knowledge of L.A. effort. “The big issue is not only whether it should be one or two teams, and where the team or teams will be, but also which franchise should get the first shot? There is sentiment that [Rams owner] Stan Kroenke shouldn’t have the first shot. The Raiders are in horrible shape. The Chargers have a terrible stadium. In St. Louis, the city is trying at least to find a solution.”

Union Blasts NFL's Unilateral Imposition Of Personal Conduct Policy

Dec 12, 2014 10:48 AM

The NFL Players Association responded to the NFL's announcement of a new personal conduct policy with the issuance of a statement.

“Our union has not been offered the professional courtesy of seeing the NFL’s new personal conduct policy before it hit the presses,” the NFLPA said.  “Their unilateral decision and conduct today is the only thing that has been consistent over the past few months.”

The NFLPA intends to immediately scrutinize the new policy for any terms that may fall within the mandatory duty to collectively bargain terms and conditions of employment with the union, and then to pursue potential relief via “system arbitration” under the CBA or via the National Labor Relations Board.

The NFL dismissed the union’s concerns during a media conference call introducing the new policy by contending that the goal is to protect the victims of violent crimes and that, as NFL executive V.P. of operations Troy Vincent said in remarks sharply critical of the union’s position, “People who don’t like discipline are those who have committed a criminal act.”
