Google Buys 'Sunday Ticket' Rights On Seven-Year, $14B Deal

Dec 22, 2022 5:04 PM

Google has agreed to distribute the NFL's "Sunday Ticket" package on YouTube TV on a seven-year deal worth more than $14 billion.

DirectTV has paid $1.5 billion per year on an eight-year contract that expires at the end of this season.

The NFL had been seeking $2.5 billion per season for the package. The league could reach that total since they retain commercial rights to bars and restaurants and are selling those separately.

Besides Amazon, Apple and ESPN also expressed interest in the "Sunday Ticket" package.

YouTube Close To Deal With NFL For Sunday Ticket

Dec 20, 2022 10:55 PM

Google's YouTube is close to acquiring the rights to NFL's Sunday Ticket package of games.

Google has discussed paying about $2.5 billion a year to the league, $1 billion more than DirecTV, which had the rights for years.

The league could receive additional payments based on the number of YouTube subscribers that Google is able to add.

YouTube TV is the premium streaming product for Google.

YouTube said in July that YouTube TV had more than five million subscribers and trial users of the product, which costs $64.99 a month.

Apple was interested in the rights, but became skeptical that the Sunday Ticket package was worth what the NFL was seeking.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Antonio Brown

Dec 2, 2022 8:42 AM

Tampa police issued a warrant Thursday for former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown.

The active warrant stems from a domestic battery incident involving a woman, according to authorities.

On Nov. 28, Brown and the woman were involved in a verbal altercation at his home in South Tampa. The argument became physical, and according to police, Brown threw a shoe at the victim. Brown also attempted to evict the woman from the home by locking her out.

Brown was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Jan. 6 after he jogged off the field against the New York Jets.
