Josh Gordon Enters Inpatient Rehab Facility

Sep 30, 2016 11:39 AM

Josh Gordon was set to be reinstated by the NFL to return to play in Week 5 but he's instead entered an inpatient treatment facility.

Statement from Josh Gordon "After careful thought and deep consideration I've decided that I need to step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career to enter an inpatient rehabilitation facility. This is the right decision for me and one that I hope will enable me to gain full control of my life and continue on a path to reach my full potential as a person. I appreciate the support of the NFL, NFLPA, the Browns, my teammates, my agent and the community through this extremely challenging process."

Statement from Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown on Josh Gordon "We support Josh in taking this step to seek additional help and treatment. His singular focus must be on his own health. We want nothing more than for Josh to be successful personally and professionally and will not comment on his status with the organization at this time."

Eagles' Lane Johnson Begins Appeal Process On 10-Game Ban

Sep 20, 2016 8:05 AM

Lane Johnson has scheduled an appeal hearing on Oct. 4 as he attempts to avoid a potential 10-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy for a second time, according to a source.

Johnson is eligible to play for the Philadelphia Eagles through the appeals process.

The Philadelphia Inquirer, who first reported the news, said a ruling by the independent arbitrator is expected shortly after Johnson's hearing.

If he loses the appeal, the suspension would start Oct. 9 and Allen Barbre would likely move from left guard to right tackle for the Eagles.

Sep 19, 2016 5:40 PM

Gregory won't be eligible to play this season until Week 15.

He spent time in rehab and was released earlier this month. He has not been around the team since the offseason.

At the 2015 NFL scouting combine, Gregory tested positive for marijuana, which put him in the league's drug program.

Tom Brady Recruits Wes Welker As Throwing Partner

Sep 16, 2016 12:15 PM

Tom Brady recruited Wes Welker as a throwing partner this weekend as he continues to serve his four-game suspension.

"It was funny. I hit him up [because] I'm actually heading up to the game [Saturday], and I hit him up to do dinner Saturday night," Welker said. "[Brady] was like 'I'm going to be flying in from Ann Arbor later, but hey, how about that morning we go throw?' And I'm just sitting there, like, 'I was just thinking about dinner, but yeah, sure.' I'll get over there early and we can throw a little bit. That's the only thing we really have planned."

Brady is being honored at the University of Michigan this weekend.

Brady is prohibited from engaging in any football-related activities or discussions with current teammates at or away from the Patriots' facilities, which even includes working out or playing catch.

Welker appeared in eight games last season with the Rams and had 13 catches.

Roger Goodell Claims Outcome Of DeflateGate 100 Percent Accurate

Sep 11, 2016 5:44 PM

Roger Goodell described the outcome of DeflateGate as 100 percent accurate during an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer.

“Yes, because we went through a very exhausting process with this,” Goodell said. “We had an independent investigation. We had a federal judge who ruled against it. It went to an appellate court. The appellate court at that point in time said, ‘Listen, there’s compelling, if not overwhelming evidence here. There’s absolutely no question that the destruction of evidence should be considered by the Commissioner in the context of this. And that the process was properly followed.’ We collectively bargained a process for discipline. We went through that. And I can’t think of an issue that has been more litigated, by the way.”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk rebutted the comments from Goodell.

On the 'exhausting' process: 'It seems as if the NFL concluded based on a flawed presumption that the Patriots cheated, then used flawed assumptions to ignore the scientific explanation for the true PSI numbers — not the false numbers the NFL leaked and/or didn’t thereafter dispute,' wrote Florio.

On the independent investigation: 'The investigation was not independent. NFL general counsel Jeff Pash was involved in the investigation, to the point where Pash actually reviewed and revised the report from Ted Wells before the report was published. While the investigation involved a non-employee of the league office, the investigation was far from independent.'

On what the appellate court said: 'The appellate court didn’t say what Goodell claims it said. They did not call the evidence of guilt “compelling” or “overwhelming.” The litigation had nothing to do with whether Goodell got it right; the only question was whether he was acting within his powers. The appeals court did not conclude that Brady cheated, that he destroyed his phone, or that he did anything else in relation to the allegations.'

Bruce Miller Released By 49ers Following Assault Arrest

Sep 6, 2016 8:41 AM

Bruce Miller has been released by the San Francisco 49ers hours after he was arrested on an assault charge.

Miller was arrested at 11:25 am PT Monday and taken to San Francisco County Jail. He is being held on $178,000 bond and being charged with assault with a deadly weapon (not a firearm), two counts of criminal threats, battery and elder abuse.

Miller tried to enter a hotel room occupied by an elderly couple. The couple's 29-year-old son, staying in the next room, then told Miller he was at the wrong room. Miller, who was intoxicated at the time, attacked the son and his 70-year-old father, who came to his son's defense, police said.

The father was punched by Miller and both men were taken to the hospital for their injuries, police said.

Miller was entering his sixth season with the team and represented the tight ends on the team's leadership council, which includes a player from every position.

Miller was also arrested in March 2015 in Santa Clara on suspicion of spousal battery after his then-fiancée accused him of shoving her and smashing her cellphone during an argument.

Kenny Gregory Faces Longer Suspension

Sep 4, 2016 9:02 PM

Randy Gregory has not had his appeal heard regarding an additional suspension by the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy.

The NFL has not announced more than a four-game suspension for Gregory, and the league still considers his potential "4-plus-10" ‎suspension to be pending, according to the source.

When final roster cuts were made Saturday by NFL teams, there was a mention next to Gregory's name on the Cowboys' roster of a four-game suspension, but that was in reference to his violation announced in February, not the additional violation reported in July, which the NFL has not made any announcement about.

At the 2015 NFL scouting combine, Gregory tested positive for marijuana, which put him in the league's drug program. Considered a first-round prospect out of Nebraska, he fell to the second round, where the Cowboys selected him with the 60th overall pick.

Rob Ninkovich Receives Four-Game Suspension

Sep 2, 2016 5:04 PM

Rob Ninkovich will serve a four-game suspension to open the 2016 regular season after a positive test for a banned substance.

The NFL said in a statement that Ninkovich is eligible to return from his suspension, which is without pay, on Monday, Oct. 3.

Ninkovich told ESPN on Friday that he is devastated and shocked, and said he would never knowingly take an illegal substance.

"Few things are more important to me than my name and reputation. This might call that into question for some, which has me heartbroken," Ninkovich said. "I don't want to cut any corners. I want to do things the right way, with high integrity, and that's what I have always wanted to stand for."
