NFL Players Believe HGH Use Widespread

Dec 31, 2015 11:36 AM

Regardless of whether Peyton Manning used HGH, NFL players believe there is an HGH problem with the league

Players Bleacher Report spoke to estimated that somewhere in the range of 10 to 40 percent of current players use HGH.

A player using HGH will only get caught "if the NFL gets really, really lucky, like win-the-Lotto-every-month lucky," said one player.

"The bodies of players are basically acting as chemistry sets," one veteran said. "What's going to happen to these guys five or 10 years from now?"

The NFL and union agreed to HGH testing in 2011. Testing did not begin until October 2014.

Odell Beckham Loses Appeal Of Suspension

Dec 23, 2015 5:56 PM

Odell Beckham Jr. has lost his appeal of a one-game suspension.

Beckham rushed across the field to deliver a helmet-to-helmet hit on Josh Norman at the end of a run play in which neither was involved.

The NFL called that play particularly flagrant in the statement that announced the suspension was upheld.

Beckham issued the following apology on Twitter:

"I appealed my suspension because it is a right granted to all players under the NFL's CBA and because I owe it to my teammates to do everything I can to be on the field this week. Regardless of the outcome of my appeal, I apologize for my actions on Sunday. I work hard to be great and accepting the Blessing of having the physical skills to play at this level brings the responsibility to conduct myself in a certain way on and off the field. Sportsmanship and respecting the game are as important as blocking, running routes, catching the football. I dropped the ball on sportsmanship on Sunday."

NFL Likely To Suspend Odell Beckham Jr. One Game

Dec 21, 2015 4:07 PM

Odell Beckham Jr. will likely receive a one-game suspension by the NFL.

Beckham would be suspended for his actions during the Giants' 38-35 loss to the Panthers on Sunday, during which he delivered a deliberate shot to the helmet of Josh Norman after the play was over. Beckham also incurred three personal foul penalties Sunday.

"All the concussion stuff that's going around, they're trying to prevent head-to-head, and if that wasn't the blatant head to head, I don't know what is," Norman told ESPN's Mike & Mike on Monday, also calling Beckham "Two-Face."

Norman said Beckham should have been ejected and that he hoped the league would punish him.

"I hope the league office gets a chance to review the film and see what they can do, because players like that don't deserve to be in the game,'' Norman said. "I mean, it's ridiculous."

Josh Norman: Odell Beckham Should Be Punished For Actions

Dec 21, 2015 11:44 AM

Josh Norman says Odell Beckham Jr. should have been ejected for the shots Beckham took at him.

Calling Beckham a "ballerina," Norman was particularly incensed that Beckham took a deliberate shot to his helmet in the second half. Norman said he hopes the league punishes Beckham.

"The guy ran 15 yards down the field, dead-on collision,'' Norman said after Carolina improved to 14-0 with a 38-35 victory. "The play was all the way to the left side. He came back and was hunting, and it was just, like, malicious in every way.

"I hope the league office gets a chance to review the film and see what they can do, because players like that don't deserve to be in the game,'' Norman said. "I mean, it's ridiculous."

They repeatedly got into it, shoving and wrestling with each other. Beckham was flagged for three unnecessary roughness penalties, twice on the same drive in the third quarter. Norman also drew an unnecessary roughness penalty on the same drive.

NFL Players' Crime Rates Down 39 Percent

Dec 18, 2015 9:58 PM

There has been a 39 percent reduction in player arrests from last year.

The NFL, however, has had difficulty gaining cooperation during investigations into player misconduct.

The league formed a personal conduct committee last December.

"The committee is cognizant that, as a private employer, the league is taking on a challenge most other employers do not assume," the letter reads.

According to the report: "Between 2007 and 2014, the league averaged approximately 70 arrest incidents annually for players, 20 for violent and 50 for non-violent conduct. Since Jan. 1, 2015, there have been 11 arrests for violent offenses and 28 for nonviolent offenses, a 44 percent decrease in total arrests from the historic average, and a 39 percent decrease in total arrests as compared to the same period in 2014."
