Seahawks Sign Jamal Adams To Four-Year, $72M Extension

Aug 19, 2021 10:04 AM

After five months of negotiations, the Seattle Seahawks have finally agreed to a contract extension with Jamal Adams.

The safety's mother pushed the deal through when she sent her son a text message Monday night from back home in Dallas.

"She said my full name, and when my mother says my full name, I think I need to pay attention," Adams said. "She gave me a nice little paragraph and basically just told me that you don't have to prove anything else to anybody. You did enough. We're happy. As long as my family's happy and I'm happy, I can come and do what I love to do, that's all that matters to me."

Adams can make as much as $72 million over four years under the new deal. He is now the NFL's highest-paid safety. He will receive a $20 million signing bonus and $38 million guaranteed.

Seahawks Plan To Let Jamal Adams Finish Rookie Deal

Aug 16, 2021 5:14 PM

The Seattle Seahawks are at the end of their rope in contract negotiations with Jamal Adams.

More than a week after making a final offer to the safety, a source says the Seahawks are truly done negotiating with Adams. They are comfortable with their offer and will let Adams play out his rookie deal if he doesn't accept what is on the table.

Seattle could then franchise tag Adams twice, for 2022 and 2023.

Adams will make $9.86 million this year under the fifth-year option. The franchise tag for safeties is projected to be $13.5 million in 2022.

Aug 11, 2021 2:03 PM

The Seattle Seahawks are releasing Aldon Smith.

Smith was arrested in April on a second-degree battery charge, two days after he signed with the Seahawks, after he was accused of choking a man unconscious during an altercation that began inside a New Orleans-area coffee shop.

Smith, who has had numerous alcohol-related incidents during his NFL career, has been staying in a sober living home in Seattle, as he did last season in Dallas.

Russell Wilson: Seahawks 'Got To Figure Out' Duane Brown's Contract

Aug 9, 2021 8:21 AM

With Duane Brown not practicing as he seeks a new deal, Russell Wilson spoke candidly about the importance of getting his best offensive lineman back on the field.

"Not having Duane Brown out there is a pretty significant deal because I think he's one of the best left tackles in the game, there's no arguing it," Wilson said. "I think he's as good as it gets. There's nobody more athletic, more talented than he is. Age is just a number. He looks like he's 28-30 out there. He's really exceptional. So smart and physical, understands the game, and I think people fear him, to be honest with you, when they're rushing him and playing against him.

"So we definitely want to be able to get him back out there. We've got to figure that out because we need Duane Brown."

A report last week stated that Brown was upset that he had yet to receive a new deal from the Seattle Seahawks. He's in the last year of his current contract, which is set to pay him up to $11.35 million this season.
