Seahawks Sticking With Geno Smith At Quarterback

Oct 27, 2021 8:37 AM

Pete Carroll won't make a change at quarterback despite the Seattle Seahawks' struggles since Geno Smith took over for the injured Russell Wilson.

"Sure," Carroll said when asked if Smith would start against the Jacksonville Jaguars. "Yeah, he is. And we're counting on him to just keep getting better and us to play better around him."

Carroll said Smith has been "solid" and called it a "phenomenal accomplishment" to protect the ball as well as he has in the two-plus games he's played since Wilson injured his finger in the second half of Seattle's loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.

"He's managing the game well," Carroll said. "I would like him to get the football out, be more open to throw the ball away. We talked about it in the locker room after the game. Sometimes those situations happen so fast, and to make that declaration to give up on the play is something that takes experience. That experience for Geno right now, it's not quite settled in the way he needs to be satisfied with, 'I've got to throw the ball away, we've got to punt the football.' And there's nothing wrong with that. We took two or three sacks last night that we shouldn't have taken."

Pete Carroll: Russell Wilson 'Definitely Making Progress'

Oct 22, 2021 8:31 AM

Russell Wilson will miss at least two more games after the Seattle Seahawks placed him on injured reserve, but Pete Carroll provided a positive update on the quarterback.

Asked to update Wilson's rehabilitation from a hand injury, Carroll confirmed the quarterback is "definitely making progress" but declined to offer a timetable for his return.

"Russ is making progress," Carroll said. "He's definitely making progress. He's very positive in all of that. I know it's hard on him. He wants to be out there so bad. (But) he's really conditioning hard to prepare himself physically and mentally ... It's really admirable the way he's going about it ... We'll keep our fingers crossed for good results."

Seahawks To Release CB Tre Flowers

Oct 13, 2021 9:13 AM

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to release former starting cornerback Tre Flowers, according to a source.

Flowers began the season as a starter but was benched in favor of Sidney Jones after a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3.

He has started 40 games over three-plus seasons with the Seahawks, who drafted him in the fifth round out of Oklahoma State in 2018 and converted him from safety to cornerback.

Russell Wilson Out 4-8 Weeks With Surgery On Finger

Oct 8, 2021 10:06 PM

Russell Wilson is expected to miss four to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on a ruptured tendon in the middle finger of his right hand.

The decision to have surgery was made with Wilson's long-term health in mind.

Wilson's streak of 149 consecutive stars will come to an end. Wilson has played through some notable injuries, including a sprained ankle and sprained MCL in 2016.

The Seahawks will start Geno Smith in place of Wilson.

Russell Wilson Has 'Badly Sprained Finger'

Oct 8, 2021 8:59 AM

Russell Wilson's status for the Seattle Seahawks going forward is in question.

Wilson suffered a "badly sprained finger" in Thursday night's loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He played one series in the third quarter after suffering the injury, but was then replaced by Geno Smith.

"There is a lot of work to be done in assessing all of that," Pete Carroll said about how long the quarterback could be out. "Russell is one of the great healers of all time, and he'll do whatever he can to get back as soon as absolutely possible."

Russell Wilson won his 100th game with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, becoming the fastest quarterback to 100 victories in NFL history.
