The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to hire Mike Macdonald as head coach on a six-year deal.

Macdonald was most recently defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens and becomes the NFL's current youngest head coach at 36.

Macdonald will replace Pete Carroll.

Ben Johnson has decided to remain as offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions.

Johnson was a candidate for several head coaching openings, including the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commenders.

Johnson reportedly was seeking an incredibly lucrative contract to become a head coach, which possibly cooled his market.

Raheem Morris is one of the top head coaching candidates on the market and has second in-person interviews upcoming with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks.

Morris was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 until 2011. Morris has been defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams since 2021.

The Chicago Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator, according to a source.

Chicago fired Luke Getsy and four members of the offensive staff earlier this month.

Waldron, 44, spent the last three seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks.

Mike Vrabel is interviewing with the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday to discuss their head coaching vacancy.

The Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks are also interested in interviewing Vrabel. 

The Tennessee Titans parted ways with Vrabel last week.

The Jim Harbaugh derby for NFL teams is about to heat up.

The Los Angeles Chargers are set to be the first NFL team to meet with Harbaugh about their head-coaching vacancy, according to ESPN and multiple reports.

Atlanta, Carolina, Las Vegas, Seattle, Tennessee and Washington also have openings.

Pete Carroll will not return as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks in 2024. Carroll will remain with the franchise as an advisor. 

Carroll has been head coach of the Seahawks since leaving USC in 2010.

The Seahawks won one Super Bowl under Carroll and went to a second in the subsequent season. 

Dan Quinn is expected to be one of the prominent candidates for the job. 

With speculation raised anew that he may retire, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reiterated Monday that he intends to return in 2024 for what will be his 15th season in Seattle.

"I plan to be coaching this team," Carroll said on his Seattle Sports 710 AM radio show a day after the Seahawks' season ended with a win over the Arizona Cardinals, but no playoff berth. "I told you that I love these guys and that's what I would like to be doing and see how far I can go. I'm not worn out. I'm not tired. I'm not any of that stuff. I need to do a better job and I need to help my coaches more and we need to do a better job of coaching, and there's a lot of area for improvement."
