Russell Wilson: We Need To Get DK Metcalf The Football

Nov 30, 2021 7:27 AM

DK Metcalf caught just one pass in the Seattle Seahawks' loss to the Washington Football Team on Monday night.

Russell Wilson said Metcalf's lack of catches wasn't about Seattle's game plan, but about the way Washington's defense adjusted.

"Obviously we need to get DK the football," Wilson said. "We called several plays for him. He had a sweet deep cross that he was gonna be wide open, maybe for a touchdown, that I had to move. ... That was unfortunate. ... We called some other stuff and they doubled him. We called two plays in a row for him and they doubled him on those. ... He's one of the best football players in the world. We got to get him the football. We got to find ways to do it. We got to move him around maybe. We've got to study it and find out what we can do."

Pete Carroll Leaves Press Conference, Later Returns

Nov 22, 2021 8:59 AM

After Sunday's disappointing loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Pete Carroll cut his press conference short before returning later to answer more questions.

The Seahawks have dropped to 3-7, marking the first time since 2011 and only the second time in Carroll's tenure that they've been four games under .500.

"I'm just not any good at this," Carroll said of handling this level of losing. "I'm not prepared for this. I'm struggling to do a good job of coaching when you're getting your butt kicked week in and week out. It's new territory, and I'm competing in every way I can think of. But I'm just unfamiliar with it. So if I leave early or if I make a mistake, I'm not on my best game right here ... I'm not making any excuses. And I don't want to get good at this."

Carroll began his postgame news conference without his usual opening statement, saying, "I don't have a lot to tell you" before inviting questions. He then left about eight minutes in, saying, "I'm really done. I'm done," and continued to walk off as a reporter was beginning to ask another question.

Carroll later returned wearing street clothes and apologized for his early exit.

DK Metcalf On Outbursts: 'I've Got To Grow Up'

Nov 19, 2021 8:59 AM

DK Metcalf says he's gotten the message from Pete Carroll after having another conversation about on-field outbursts.

"I think I've had an outburst three times this year, so we've talked three times," Metcalf said.

"The conversation has always gotten better. I'm a passionate player. I'm never going to back down from anything. He understands that, but at the same time, I'm starting to become a leader on this team and I've got to grow up and continue to get better. I know I'm still a work in progress. I don't like to use my age as an excuse, but I sometimes forget that I'm just 23 years old. So continue just to grow each day, and mistakes are going to get fixed."

It's not clear which three outbursts Metcalf was referring to, but the post-play scuffle that led to his ejection late in the Seahawks' 17-0 loss at Green Bay on Sunday was clearly one of them.

Russell Wilson Aims To Play '20-Plus Years' Then Own Team

Nov 17, 2021 8:56 AM

Russell Wilson plans to play football for a long time and then own an NFL team.

"I knew I was wildly crazy about the game, but I'm ridiculously obsessed with it," Wilson said. "That's why I want to play 20-plus years. I think the other part that you learn about yourself is to have patience. At the same time, you have to have drive. I think that's such a critical part. The third thing is [having] unrelenting confidence. You don't want to mistake that with arrogance. It's strictly confidence in what you do and how you do it and you've done it before, and we'll do it again and with great faith, all things are possible, and that's really what's been very evident to me in my journey."

Wilson, 32, is in his 10th NFL season.

Russell Wilson: Finger Not To Blame For Rare Shutout

Nov 15, 2021 9:01 AM

Russell Wilson took the blame for the Seattle Seahawks' 17-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

He didn't, however, put the blame on his surgically-repaired ringer.

"My finger felt fine," Wilson said. "The problem with tonight was I had two bad plays. That's what it really was."

Wilson had surgery on his finger on October 8 and was sidelined for roughly a month. He went 20-of-40 for 161 yards, two interceptions and a 12.9 Total QBR.

"He doesn't feel like it was at all," Pete Carroll said when asked how much Wilson's finger may have impacted his play. "There was a couple high throws that got out. Pretty cold night and all that. Maybe that had something to do with it as you're looking at it. I don't think so. I'm not thinking that and Russ isn't either."

Russell Wilson 'Looks Pretty Good' At Practice

Nov 11, 2021 8:34 AM

Pete Carroll said Russell Wilson is not being limited in practice this week in his return from an injury to his right middle finger.

Wilson practiced on Monday for the first time since his October 8 surgery.

"I've just seen him in the walk-through since then and you would never have known," Carroll said. "So I don't know what that means yet, but he looks pretty good."

Carroll said earlier in the week that the plan was for Wilson to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers assuming all goes well this week. The Seattle Seahawks would need to activate Wilson off injured reserve by Saturday to make him eligible.
