Russell Wilson: Seahawks Would Strike If They Had Game Scheduled

Aug 28, 2020 5:02 PM

Russell Wilson believes the Seattle Seahawks would go on strike to protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake if they had a game scheduled for this week.

“Yeah, for sure,” Wilson said on 710 ESPN Seattle, via Brady Henderson of ESPN. “I think just witnessing what happened to Jacob and everything else and all the things have have added up to this, it’s devastating. It’s truly devastating just to watch that. This isn’t like this hasn’t been doing on for years. That’s the scary part and sad part. The difference now is we get to see it every day because of social media and phones and everything else. I think the world is truly seeing the ugliness of society at times, and I think what’s really disappointing is just knowing that as we athletes try to make a difference and sometimes people don’t want to listen and don’t want to recognize that that could have been us, that could be us. I think that’s a real reality. I think for us as a team, for the Seahawks, we’re definitely discussing what do we do next. How do we make a change? How do we cause movement, and how do we make a difference? We’re in the midst of all that right now. We don’t have weeks, and we don’t have months. We don’t have years to change it. We have to all do it together, and we’ve got to do it now, and we need change now, and we need people to make a difference now. We’re calling on people like [the media] to really help us along the way, too.”

Wilson added that, as a father of three Black children, he has fears for them.

“It’s been one of the most difficult years of my life, observing and knowing and understanding that I have children,” Wilson said. “I have three amazing, intelligent, athletic, talented, full-of-lie, full-of-huge-huge-smile type children that just bring joy and bring light to the world and anybody they’re ever around, and what I fear is one day they’re not here because of somebody else’s insecurities, because of the lack of empathy, because of racism. And that’s a real thought that, to be honest, you all may not have to deal with. When I saw that, the reality is the reality, and it’s an unfortunate one, so how do we change that reality?”

Pete Carroll On Player Protests: 'Anything's Possible'

Aug 28, 2020 8:25 AM

After the Seattle Seahawks held a mock game on Wednesday, Pete Carroll addressed the shooting of Jacob Blake, which has sparked widespread protest in the sports community.

"This whole thing is ridiculous, and anybody that doesn't recognize that just isn't paying attention," Carroll said.

Carroll was then asked about the possibility of player protests during the 2020 season.

"Anything's possible," he said. "I mentioned to the players this is the year — the protest season. It's the season of protesting. And we'll handle ourselves as we do. This is a protest that doesn't have an end to it until all the problems go away. And we solve the issues and stuff. So we're gonna do our part and continue to work to stay actively involved, and continue to stay in touch with the situations that are going on by staying on the topics and with it just in hopes that we can be there to help and support where we can and have influence where we can."

NFL's 32 Teams Collectively Worth $99 Billion

Aug 26, 2020 1:29 PM

The average NFL franchise is worth more than $3 billion, according to data compiled by Sportico.

The Dallas Cowboys rank first in the NFL at $6.43 billion with the Cincinnati Bengals ranking last at $2.12 billion.

The fair-market value of the NFL's 32 franchises collectively is $99 billion when considering team-related businesses and real estate held by owners.

The teams’ $15.83 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year, which represents the 2019 season, was greater than that of 298 companies on the Fortune 500. That averages to about $495 million per team.

In 2019, the Cowboys generated an estimated $871 million in revenue, which was 81% greater than the average of the other 31 teams.

Chris Carson Away From Seahawks Indefinitely Following Tragedy

Aug 14, 2020 9:17 AM

Chris Carson hasn't taken part in the first practice sessions of the offseason with the Seattle Seahawks this week.

Carson is away from the team for personal reasons, including a death in his family.

"Chris has got some family stuff going on that he’s had to take care of," Pete Carroll said.

"Our hearts go out to Chris," Carrolladded. "He's going through some really big stuff with family members that he is looking after and taking care of. He’s fine, and all that. It has nothing to do with Chris, personally, physically or anything. But he has to do this, at this time, right now. . . . I’m not sure how many more days it’s going to be before he takes care of all of that business. But they are trying to figure it all out. It’s back home."

Jets DC: Jamal Adams 'May Get Bored' In Seattle's Scheme

Aug 14, 2020 9:08 AM

New York Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams took some shots at the scheme of the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.

Williams was commenting for the first time on the trade that sent Jamal Adams from the Jets to the Seahawks. He was asked if the departure of Adams would change the way he deployed New York's safeties.

"It really doesn't. We're very multiple with how we do those things anyway," he said.

Then Williams added, "Jamal may get bored there because they don't use their safety-type things with all the complexities ... uh, maybe not showing what they're doing as much as we do."

Williams was referencing to the Seahawks' hallmark Cover 3 scheme, which is considered vanilla compared to Williams' ever-changing fronts and disguises.

Seahawks Waive Rookie Caught Trying To Sneak Visitor Into Team Hotel

Aug 13, 2020 3:23 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have cut Kemah Siverand after he was caught on video trying to sneak a female visitor into the team hotel. The woman was wearing Seahawks' gear in an attempt to disguise her as a player.

Siverand is a rookie cornerback out of Oklahoma State that Seattle signed as an undrafted free agent.

The decision is interpreted as a consequence of putting the team at risk of COVID-19.

Seahawks Acknowledge Interest In Antonio Brown

Aug 3, 2020 8:54 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have acknowledged the team has interest in Antonio Brown.

Brown will be suspended eight games once he's signed by a team. Russell Wilson hosted Brown for a workout in San Diego in July and he's advocated behind the scenes for the team to sign him.

"What I'd say to you is what we always say because it's what we always do and who we are," Pete Carroll said when asked about the Seahawks' rumored interest in Brown. "John is competing at every turn. There's never been a process, unless we just missed it, that we weren't involved with to understand what the chances were of helping our club. He's all over it. He understands what's going on right now, as much as you can. It's a very complex situation. We just need to see where it fits somewhere down the road. That's all I got for you."

Brown could be suspended for additional games following the conclusion of an ongoing NFL investigation into the allegation from Brown's former trainer that he sexually assaulted her on three separate occasions in 2017 and 2018.
