Jahmyr Gibbs 'Shocked' To Go To Lions At No. 12

Apr 28, 2023 8:41 AM

Jahmyr Gibbs admitted to being "shocked" when the Detroit Lions drafted him with the 12th overall pick on Thursday night.

"Yeah, I thought like in the 20s because that's where it is usually for running backs," said Gibbs, who was the second running back taken after Bijan Robinson.

Earlier in the draft, the Lions traded the sixth overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals for picks Nos. 12 and 34.

"We've kind of put Jahmyr in his own separate box and just got really excited about the player," general manager Brad Holmes said.

Jameson Williams Amongst Several Suspensions For Gambling

Apr 21, 2023 12:15 PM

Four players on the Detroit Lions have received suspensions from the NFL for violating the league's gambling policy.

The Lions became aware of the NFL's investigation about a month ago before the league reached a final decision.

Jameson Williams, a 2022 first round pick by the Lions, received a six-game suspension. Stanley Berryhill also has been suspended for six games. These two did not bet on NFL games, the team said. The Lions traded up to get Williams at No. 12 in the 2022 draft.

Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore have been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games, as was Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney.

Lions 'Felt Better About' Jalen Carter After Visit

Apr 20, 2023 2:30 PM

The Detroit Lions hosted Jalen Carter for a visit on Monday.

"He came in and he did a nice job. Again, it's always case by case. He came in, we enjoyed our time with him, he did a nice job," general manager Brad Holmes said of Carter's recent visit. "I'll say even after he left his visit, I felt better about him."

The Lions own the No. 6 and No. 18 overall picks.

Carter's draft status has been clouded after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing last month in connection with a fatal crash in January. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a $1,000 fine and 80 hours of community service and will attend a state-approved defensive driving course. His attorney, Kim Stephens, said that by resolving the matter, the state of Georgia is forever barred from bringing additional charges against Carter.

Marvin Jones On Return To Lions: 'The Culture's Different'

Apr 7, 2023 8:46 AM

After two years away from the team, Marvin Jones is returning to the Detroit Lions.

Jones played five years with the Lions, from 2016-2020. He spent the past two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"It's a new feel for sure," Jones said. "And I think when I came here, the first thing everybody said is, 'Hey, Marv, it's different, you're going to love it.' The culture's different, the coaches, everything. It's not the same. So I think that was definitely one of the reasons why it was definitely appealing for me to come back here and, why not?"
