Lions' Jameson Williams 'Wasn't Aware' Of Gambling Policy

May 26, 2023 10:02 AM

Jameson Williams says he was blindsided by his six-game suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy.

"I didn't know things like this was coming, but I took me some time, and I just thought about the better days and moving forward," the Detroit Lions wide receiver said. "It's not my last day living so I just look forward to the better days."

Williams, the No. 12 pick of the 2022 NFL draft, claims he wasn't aware of the policy beforehand.

He was flagged for mobile betting that occurred at the team's Allen Park facility, which he says he doesn't remember. He won't appeal the six-game suspension.

"I just left it alone," Williams said. "They gave me six games and we left it at that. I just look forward to coming back Week 7, getting back with team out there and playing the game."

Jahmyr Gibbs Brushes Off Criticism That Lions Reached In Draft

May 15, 2023 9:18 AM

Jahmyr Gibbs is brushing off criticism that the Detroit Lions reached when they drafted him with the 12th overall pick last month.

"Everybody is entitled to their opinion," Gibbs said. "I really don't care."

Shortly after being drafted, Gibbs said he was "surprised" by how high the Lions picked him, with running backs not being valued as highly in today's era.

Gibbs is Detroit's highest-drafted running back since 1989, when the Lions took Hall of Famer Barry Sanders with the No. 3 pick.

The Lions won eight of their final 10 games in 2022 to finish at 9-8 and post their first winning record since 2017.

Dan Campbell: It's Going To Be A Long Time Before Hendon Hooker Plays

May 10, 2023 8:36 AM

Hendon Hooker, a third-round pick of the Detroit Lions, is not expected to play this season while he rehabs a torn ACL.

"Really, this is a redshirt year for him," Dan Campbell told Chris Long on the Green Light Podcast. "He's got to get this leg right first, and then he'll learn under Jared [Goff], and then let's see what happens. If he can eventually become your two or maybe down the road, later on, it's more than that, but it's going to be a long time."

Hooker, who injured his left knee in a Nov. 19 game against South Carolina, is doing low-gravity running and recently resumed taking dropbacks. He has said he is not putting a timetable on his return.
