Williams Wants Lions To Relax On Weight Issue

Aug 3, 2014 2:14 PM

Mike Williams said he thinks he will be back with the Lions next year. But he isn't sure, and if he does return, he wants a lot of things to change -- starting with his weight target. "If they do want me back, hopefully, we can come to a fair weight for me to play at," Williams said Friday. "If they want me here, I just hope all this other stuff will just be done," Williams said. "If they want me here with the focus of moving forward and doing what's best as far as winning and not being what it has been, and if that's the case, I'll be happy to be here."

Lions Fans Stage Protest

Aug 3, 2014 2:25 PM

The Lions' latest miserable season can't end soon enough for their disappointed fans. About 100 spectators left their seats midway through the second quarter of the Lions' loss to the Bears on Sunday and called for the firing of GM Matt Millen as they gathered in Ford Field's atrium. Many of the protesters headed for the exits at halftime, where they were greeted by stadium employees handing out "Go Lions" stickers.

Fans Plan Walkout To Protest Millen-Led Lions

Oct 31, 2014 6:14 AM

Some fans in Detroit are planning to protest the dismal state of the William Clay Ford-owned and Matt Millen-led Lions in their home finale for the second straight year. Last season, about 500 people marched, chanting "Fire Mil-len!, before the Lions hosted the Bengals, and many wore orange during the game. On Sunday against Chicago, another protest has been initiated by disgruntled fans. With 8:57 left in the second quarter, those interested in showing their displeasure with Ford and Millen are asked to walk out of their seats and to later walk out of the stadium.

Martz May Call On Faulk

Oct 14, 2014 12:01 PM

If the Detroit Lions need help at running back next season, Mike Martz may call on Marshall Faulk. "Shoot, I'd ride a bicycle up to pick him up," Martz said after practice Thursday. "I don't know. That's not my decision. That's something that coach (Rod) Marinelli and management would have to discuss. "Are you kidding? I'd welcome that. Wouldn't that be fun, seeing (No.) 28 running down the field?"

Lions Players Don't Blame Fans For Being Apathetic

Feb 14, 2014 7:58 AM

Ford Field was so quiet Sunday that Roy Williams claimed he could hear fans ordering hot dogs. The Lions players don't blame their fans for being apathetic. Some of them are wondering what even brings them to the stadium to watch one of the worst teams in recent memory. After losing to Minnesota, the Lions are 2-11. The franchise has lost at least 10 games in six straight seasons.

Lions running back Kevin Jones will not play at Green Bay on Sunday, and team officials are concerned his foot injury could keep him out a lot longer. He may have a fracture/dislocation of the foot, an injury that kept Teddy Lehman on the sidelines for nearly 12 months.

Martz: Mike Williams 20 Pounds Too Heavy

Feb 17, 2014 10:09 AM

Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz said Thursday that wide receiver Mike Williams is "somewhere around" 240 pounds. That's 10 pounds heavier than the weight target the Lions set for him in 2005 and 20 pounds heavier than the one they set for him this season. He is playing mostly in the slot these days. "He's awful heavy to line up outside, to line up outside and go one-on-one against the corner in press man," Martz said. "There's a lot of things he can get away with in the zones, but you've got to have a guy out there who can push up the field and get out of stuff. ... "He's a big man, and he is fast at 240. But I've seen him when he's got that weight down there, and he can really go. He can do that, and he'll do it. He's fine."
