While he is looking to sell a majority of his stake in the franchise, Randy Lerner will retain a 30 percent share of the team.
Lerner is selling controlling interest in the Browns to truck stop magnate Jimmy Haslam.
Josh Gordon Impressing With Browns
It hasn't taken long for Josh Gordon to make an impact with the Browns.
The rookie wide receiver drew attention from Pat Shurmur and fans.
"I saw Josh play a little faster," Shurmur said.
"I know he can catch the football and he can run when he gets going. He has great size. Joe Haden came back and said, 'Wow, this is a big sucker.'"
Steelers Fan In Talks To Purchase Browns
Browns owner Randy Lerner has begun talks with truck-stop magnate Jimmy Haslam on giving up controlling interest of the franchise.
And get this: Haslam is a self-described "1,000 percent" Steelers fan.
"(Lerner) is giving up controlling interest in the team," president Mike Holmgren confirmed.
Cleveland Browns Up For Sale
Browns owner Randy Lerner has issued a statement confirming that he was in negotiations to sell the franchise to businessman Jimmy Haslam.
Cleveland president Mike Holmgren confirmed that Lerner has in fact agreed to sell controlling interest of the team.
Holmgren said the team will not be moving out of Cleveland and he's unsure when the sale would be final.
"An unconditional guarantee was given that the Browns would not move before talks could even start," a source told The Plain-Dealer.
Browns Nearing Deal With Brandon Weeden
The Browns are on the verge of finalizing a contract with first-round pick Brandon Weeden, according to sources.
On Monday night it was reported that Cleveland reached an agreement with Trent Richardson, the team's other first-rounder.
The two sides spoke into the night, are now "close" to a deal, and are hoping to wrap it up Tuesday.
Sources: Browns, Richardson Agree To 4-Year, $20.4M Deal
The Browns and Trent Richardson have come to terms on a deal.
The deal is worth $20.4M over four years with a $13.341M signing bonus and is fully guaranteed with no offset language in the deal.
Richardson was the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Browns No Closer To Deals With Richardson, Weeden
There has been no movement towards a contract agreement between the Browns and third overall pick Trent Richardson, according to a league source.
Cleveland general manager Tom Heckert said last week that he expects Richardson and No. 22 overall pick Brandon Weeden to be in on time, but didn't specify if he meant by the start of rookie camp.
The holdup in Weeden's case is that he's seeking to have all four years of his rookie deal guaranteed.
Browns, Richardson In Advanced Talks
The Browns might be inching closer to a contract agreement with Trent Richardson.
The rookie running said previously that he wanted to wait to sign his contract with Cleveland until Andrew Luck (Colts) and Robert Griffin III (Redskins).
Luck and Griffin both signed deals this week.
The issue of offset language likely will be a sticking point, given that both Luck and Griffin managed to get contracts with guarantees that won't be reduced if they're cut and if they sign with new teams.
Source: Browns, Gordon Agree To Deal
The Browns and rookie Josh Gordon have agreed on a four-year contract, according to a league source.
The wide receiver, who was selected in the second round of last week's NFL Supplemental Draft, agreed to a deal worth just over $5.3 million with $3.8 million guaranteed.
Weis: Quinn Could Have Started For Me In NFL
More than a year after leaving as offensive coordinator of the Chiefs, Charlie Weis has reflected on his time in the NFL.
"You know," Weis said, "obviously, there's trials and tribulations wherever you go, but I enjoyed it."
Brady Quinn, who has bounced around during his six years in the NFL, still has a supporter in Weis.
Weis was quick to mention that Quinn won the long-drive contest with a blast of well more than 300 yards.
"Brady could have been a starting quarterback for me in the NFL," he says.
"Go back and look at those numbers for the two years he played for me," Weis said. "He was great. He wasn't good. And I know if I had him as a quarterback, I would have felt very comfortable that I could have won no matter where we were."
